So I have a Nintendo cab being delivered tomorrow that I purchased on cl and while normally, I would be stoked, but in this instance I don't know what I want to do. The cabinet is a Popeye with a Donkey Kong bezel (I assumed it was originally DK and had planned to restore back to that state) that has been converted to a Unisystem Top Gun. So if you had this mongrel, what would you do? Restore to Popeye? Convert to DK? Restore to Vs.?

I already have a relatively clean Popeye that just needs a little bondo and paint... and I'd love a dk, but I feel bad converting the Popeye cab since it still has the serial plate. The cab was relatively cheap, so I'm happy regardless...

Don't think any one would be mad if you made it a DK. Or you could always make it a DK3 since all of then are conversions or you could make it a Playchoice 10 or keep it a Vs. but if you do convert it I would be interested in buying to top gun daughter card.

If it's bothering you that much, first make sure it actually was a Popeye. The particle board cabinet is a dead give away, as is the lack of vertical mounting holes.

Honestly though, it's blue and it's a Nintendo cab. I doubt anyone will even know it used to be a Popeye, much less care.

ive never seen a particle board popeye.

So I just fired it up, and immediately blew a cap on the monitor chassis (it shot right out the back and left a mess in its wake). Also noticed that someone put screws through the bezel :-( which stinks because it was in otherwise good shape. Only one button is an original Nintendo button and it's mismatched orange and blue... so it looks like this guy will end up becoming a DK eventually after I work out the cosmetic issues and find some parts. At least then I'll have both a vertical and a horizontal Nintendo cabinet. She was cheap and didn't fall apart in my driveway upon delivery, so I can't complain.

Upside is: the board appears to be fine. System check went a-ok and I played top gun for about 2mins before things got all assplodey.
