Surely not. Really?

I picked up a Sunset Riders a couple of years ago in a 2- or 3- machine package buy. It was working fine, needed a cap kit (not terribly), an a new CPO. I pretty much parked it in a back spot in my shop, ordered an NOS CPO, and fired it up to play every once in a while. I spent past Saturday reshuffling and cleaning my project and/or for sale machines and discovered that the tag on the back of the thing cites it as a "TMNT", serial number 2342.

I had once considered converting the thing TO a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, but never would have guessed that it started out as such. It looks original Sunset Riders in every way, including the t-molding. Do you guys think that a previous op really turned a TMNT into a Sunset Riders (a Texas thing?), or that the tag on the back is misleading?

it would help if I had pictures but converting one Konami 4P game into another was quite common. TMNTs were converted into the Simpsons, Wild west cowboys off moo mesa, ETC. and perhaps some were even factory converted.

Honestly I'd pay for a well done conversion...also TMNT usually has a single speaker grill while Sunset Riders can have two...

Yeah, I know they're all essentially the same machine, but I have a hard time fathoming having turned a TMNT into any of the others, given the financial success of the former relative the latter. I guess I can see an op making the change in question for a Texas bowling alley-- where teenage mutant ninja turtles might've inspired a lynch mob and anti-freakazoid frenzy, whereas cowboys are cowboys because they like to play cowboys-- but...

I guess I was thinking that maybe Konami had put TMNT tags on a lot of those machines, this in the factory.

There is a very good chance it started out as a TMNT and then was converted. I have 2 cabinet that started as TMNT, they are now Blitz and Simpsons bowling

Don't back out on our deal, man :D

Haha. No, a deal is a deal. It's your machine! I'm aiming to see you on Sunday.

It's just a shame that I can hold onto a machine for 2+ years and not notice something like this until I bring it forward for the trading block. I have GOT to find more time for my games!

Sounds good.

I have one on location that is a tmnt, now a sunset riders. Nothing unusual about it. Tmnt stopped earning, sunset was the next new game. Pretty enjoyable one too.

I take terrible pictures, and the lighting in the shop-- along with a lot of things-- is yet unfinished. But here they are:

Last night I chunked the original pic- 400% larger than that shown- of the tag on the back of the cabinet. I'll post a new closeup of it ASAP (and so bump this thread back up from page 9 I predict).

They did a really good job with that NOS side art. I like sunset riders but I'm all about restoring back to the original and sell it if I don't want it.

The third player joystick/buttons should be green for Sunset Riders. They are purple on your machine, for Donatello.

I have a TMNT cab (single speaker hole) THAT WAS CONVERTED TO A GOLDEN TEE!!!!

I am working on converting it back. CP is all cut to pieces. I am making a new one.

Exactly, TMNT did well for nearly 2 years (1989-1991). Sunsetriders came out at exactly the right time (coincidence? ha!). I personally did a TMNT->SSR conversion myself, back then. SSR only earned well for 6 months or so, however. Such is life in the big arcade!

I know its old, but I just randomly saw this post and Im going to just come out and say it.... Sunset riders is better than TMNT. thank you, that is all.
