I'm trying my hand at piecing a cap kit together for the first time rather than ordering from Bob Roberts. I'm using Digikey. I've selected Nichicon caps, but there are a ton of different series within Nichicon for me to choose from. I'm looking at 105 degree C ones and there are PM series, PB series, PW series, etc. Looks like they mostly just differ on the lifetime rating. Some say extremely low impedance and others say high ripple current.

Recommendations on which series to get? Does it matter?

I can tell you this, I've been capping vector monitors like crazy recently, V2000 B&W, 6100s and G08 color vectors and I've been using Panasonic caps for all of them, they are the best you can buy.

From what I was told about the ripple current doesn't matter for cap kits because you are dealing with DC voltage on monitor chassis and not AC, but I'm not 100% positive about that!

Hope that helps!

Thanks disjaufika. Yeah, I figured I'd get Nichicon or Panasonic I just happend to click Nichicon first. :) Looking at the Panasonic, it looks like the same issue as far as being quite a few different series to pick from among the 105 degrees C caps.

So same question for the Panasonics - which series does everyone use? Or do you just go with whatever has the highest lifetime rating?

Honestly I go with Panasonic 105 degree caps, and then I sort by whats cheapest at that point ;)

Though I just learned this, I have been using 85 degree caps and I haven't had a single issue with them yet, thought about going back and changing them, but until they give me problems, I'm going to leave them alone.

Standard 105C parts, no need to go with low ESR unless you are working on a switching power supply.

For Nichicon - use UVZ Series (part number starts with UVZ)
For Panasonic - use NHG Series (HG in middle of part number)

No reason to pick Panasonic over Nichicon or vice-versa... they are both excellent brands.
