Nice intro video for bondo

Good stuff. I had some first timer issues with bondo a few months ago. I was trying to repair a bottom corner of a cab and had the damn thing perfectly shaped. I started sanding and the bondo started cracking and fell apart.

The mistake I made was I bought a tube of bondo that was bright red. Still not sure what the hell to do with it, but I ripped the rest of the bondo off the cab and painted it with the chunk missing. Got the t-molding around it and called it good.

No one but me notices it. It still pisses me off and my eyes are drawn to the area every time I look at that cab.

Once you wake back up, you realize that the pink elephant and lepprechan you danced with while in your bondoized stupor have helped you by slinging on all the bondo onto the cabinet for you. :D

Nice! I also hear if you don't wear gloves and get that stuff on you, you'll have mutant babies with 5 arms that shoot lasers out of their fingertips.

Bondo/body filler comes in a can, not a tube. You probably bought Bondo brand glaze. That is red and comes in a tube. Bondo does not generally crack or shrink like wood putty which is garbage. You wnat the 2 part bondo/body filler with the hardner to mix.

I have a tube of bright red bondo stuff, I can't remember what it's called, but it's for "hairline cracks" and things. It seems to work well enough on those types of cracks. It's nice to have if you have something very minor to fix and then you don't have to mix anything. The biggest area I used it on was probably an 1/8" wide depression that I put two coats of it into to fill it up to try it out. Seems OK so far. I wouldn't use it to fill a hole or rebuild anything. I think I was pressing my luck with that depression.

Yeah, I think you're right, it is some type of glaze. I had no idea what I was doing and still don't.

I just picked up the first thing I saw that said bondo. Lesson learned.

Looks like a typical Friday night to me, although its not an empty Bondo can that's left. I think I'll be working with that stuff outdoors, I don't have any brains cells left that can be sacrificed.

Awesome vids by the way, thanks for posting them!

Um, you don't have to wait overnight to sand. I bondo and sand within 30 minutes sometimes. Don't over use the hardener or it will set up too fast. I call that a "hot" mix which might be more appropriate in colder weather. I've used Bondo on edges plenty of times and it works great. There is somebody here who has posted about using nails like a sort of rebar to hold the bondo on broken corners. I've done that as well and it works very well. I think personally that he put the bondo on too thick on his gouges. The less you apply the less you have to sand. I mix bondo on a paper plate with a plastic picnic knife. I also use that knife to spread. I do use the plastic and some metal spreaders as well. When the knife starts to stick to the bondo and it starts to set up on the plate, STOP using the bondo and throw it away. It is setting up and if you continue to use it, the bondo will not spread and you will have a tougher area to sand. With a little practice, you can really work wonders with bondo. My next door neighbor is a cabinet maker and he has truly been impressed with what I have done.

He cuts my back doors for me and helps rebuild really bad cabinets but for everything else, there is bondo. Use in a well ventilated area. If you screw up, you can always sand it away.

Spot on. I usually start to sand bondo as soon as I can. Sometimes I have overused the hardener. I use a plastic lid from a 1 gallon one pint ice cream bucket to mix, you can flex the residue off when it is time to reuse. I also use those fake plastic credit cards that come in the mail to spread with. American Express seems to send a lot of those out, and they are clear to boot.

Just wondering do most people use primer after sanding the cabinet before painting? I am about to repaint my punch out and am not sure if I should primer it before I do, I saw a thread where the guy said when he repainted his punch out he was told that he didn't need to primer it by a person who repainted there punch out.
