really nothing

really nothing was ever made for poor nibbler. i think it's a fun but hard game.

plus Tim and Dwayne are great people to talk to.

Looks like all the work RAM, likely including the high score(s), is in a single 4118. The pinout of which appears ideal for drop in replacement with a DS1220 or silimar. So the only thing to do is a little 6502 code hacking to preserve them from boot-time RAM testing/init and copying of defaults...

Is there a Nibbler owner out there with desoldering equipment & skills, AND EPROM erasing/programming equipment?

OK, I've been informed that it seems some (most?) Nibbler boards have the RAM @ IC13 socketed.

So now here's the criteria for the tester I need:
-need a working nibbler PCB with a socketed RAM @ IC13 (either factory socketed, or by you)
-need one 2k NVRAM, such as DS1220 or M48Z02
-need an EPROM eraser & programmer, and ideally some EPROMs of the same type as IC7 & IC10 (2732 according to the schems)
-need to be able to determine which revision of the nibbler code you have.

Inquire within.

I'll have to look at my pcb after work tonight, but if not socketed, I'll make it so.

Not sure if I have any of these on hand, might have to order.

I should have some 2732's on hand.

Not sure which code revision I have. How can you tell (besides getting past wave 32, I'm not that good at Nibbler yet!)?

I would really like one of these too for my upcoming Nibbler build.

According to the MAME source, "Hold DOWN on controller after crosshatch appears. A number will show up to the right of the primary game creator's initials "JU".

...or.... Dump the Roms at locations IC12, IC 7 and IC8, use a rom ident tool to see which romset they are part of: nibbler, nibbler8, nibbler6 or nibblero

Another dumb question: I probably have some M48z02's laying around. Is there any way to test them to see if the battery is good?

Does your programmer support M48Z02? (Mine does!). If so, just program any 2k file to it, pull it out of the programmer, put it back in and try to verify it. If not, try reading it as a 2716 to see if anything is on it.

Never thought of that. I'll check tonight. I've never been able to find a list of supported devices for my BP EP-1140.

Might be a moot point though, as I think I have a source to borrow a new one from.
