Just picked up an NFL Blitz/Showtime combo today.

It keeps restarting after 5 minutes or so. Any ideas?

I do have it plugged into one of the Belkin remote surge protectors. Seemed to run OK when I put it in one of the always on Plugs. (Edit: Tried another power strip, same thing).

Thanks.

check to see if all the fans protecting the pcb is are working.

meter the pcb to see if you have 5v on the board.

check the edge connector for burnt traces.

The fan on the PCB is working.

I don't know how to check the voltages and I don't know what the edge connector is.

I am sorry for not know much about this machine.

Thanks.

OK I know it is a voltage issue from other threads with the same issue, How do I fix it?

I have a multimeter, have no idea how to use it.

Checking the edge connector involves removing the JAMMA harness that plugs into the game PCB board set. IF the small metal traces looked tarnished or burnt you need to clean them off with pencil eraser, fiber glass pencil or q tip with alcohol.

Checking your volatge requires the use of a Digital Multi Meter (DMM). Set it to VDC, put black lead on a grounding point and red on the +5 of the power supply. The MAXIMUM you should crank that power supply output to is 5.3 VDC. Should be a white knob on power supply to increase voltage. If the unit has been converted to a ATX power supply you most likley won;t have an option to adjust it. However those usually have a olid +5 anyway.

Any idea on where on the power supply that point is? This is more like a PC power supply and not like most I have seen in arcade games.

OK i figured it out. It was at 5.6 or so. I turned it down a little to 5.2. Now there is nothing coming out of the monitor and it doesn't start up.

Anything over 5.3VDC runs a high risk of cooking chips. I'm afraid that's what you're up against. If you can't get it to fire off of 5.3 there's something critically wrong. I don;t know of anyone that specializes in fixing these boards either. There's a reason why most of these boards on eBay are listed as "untested" or bad.

You can try doing the "feel" test. Turn the game on and feel each chip until you find a hot one. Then use canned air on it and if the game comes on you know what needs to be replaced.

I think I tested wrong, I tested at the power supply, not the board. I stuck the multimeter prongs into the connector that goes from the powersupply to the jamma harness. I am guessing I need to test AT the jamma connector? Take it off the board?

OK, i tested one of the chips and got 4.6 after turning the Power supply output to 5.6. If I turn it up much higher the Power supply just shuts off.

Game seems to be working fine now, even though the optimum voltage is 5?

Thanks!

your missing 1 fan that should push air over the board(see the 2 screws near the middle board)

here is a pic of what your board fan setup should look like:
