New to restoring arcade games but not a total retard, Trying to take the CP apart on a NFL Blitz for a new overlay install. It has security bolts on it between the plexi and the wood. They dont go all the way through it and for the life of me cant figure out how to get them off. Am I missing something here? Do I have to cut these things out?

That looks like a carriage bolt (that is, round-headed bolt meant to be attached via a nut placed on the back side of the bolt. Usually behind the head of the bolt there's a square section that will sink into the wood when the bolt is tightened, so that it won't rotate).

I have NO idea what's holding it in there. The only thing I can think of is that it's either glued in, or they hammered it in like a nail. Annoying no matter how they did it.

I'd chisel a little bit around it and see if you can pry it out. You'll end up needing to bondo the resulting hole, but it's one approach. And you don't care about the CPO anyway since you're putting a new one on.

I thought this was crazy...If I can get it out I will drill all the way through it. Was hoping to save the Plexi. Bad engineering.

I'm not really sure what's going on there, but if this is an original NFL Blitz cabinet, I think the CP has been modified. I was looking at the pictures of NFL Blitz I can find on line and I can't be sure, but I don't think that bolt was there - it might have been an add-on by an OP to fix something having gone wrong with how the plexi was originally held. Is there any chance this cab is a conversion from something else, and not originally a Blitz? Conversion of the CP might also explain some oddities.

FYI, I have a manual for the conversion kit up on Ebay, if you don't already have one: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...96665&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT#ht_500wt_1156

It says NBA on the inside sticker, doesn't say NBC or NBA Jam just says NBA Midway. I'm looking to upgrade it to the Blitz/NBA on NBC. I'll check out the manual, I think its on my watch list.

Looks like these have the bolts, I'm with you I think they were glued in .

Midway used security torx bits to secure the plex down. They also supplied the torx bit driver tool. Drill it out.

Thanks, Whoever put these bits in never thought they would have to take it apart.
