Was wondering what could be the problem with my NFL BLITZ arcade game. I can still play it but I cannot get the picture as bright as I would like it without it going out of focus right away. Messed with the brightness on the chassis and on the flyfack and obviously the focus on the flyback but It has kind of a dark picture since it will go out of foucs if I turn the brightness up. What could be the problem?

I have usually found this to be an indicator of a weak tube. As you increase the brightness, you have to compensate on the focus. The brightness or "screen" control typically has a greater range of adjustment than the focus. It sounds like you are exceeding the range you can compensate for in order to get the picture bright enough. You can try a cap kit or rejuvenate the monitor but due to the burn you mentioned earlier, it sounds like your tube is too weak.

I think any tube from that era is pretty much garbage, as outlined. lol

hope you're lucky and the rejuve sticks, permitting it works.

The consensus on this forum seems to be, Zenith tubes SUCK, most others are pretty good. Unfortunately, Wells used almost exclusively Zeniths for 25" monitors in the late 80s and early 90s, so now they're surfacing belly-up left and right. Samsung seems to be the most common brand for 33-34" tubes and you NEVER hear about those going bad.
