I was just given an NFL Blitz in a Mortal Kombat cabinet. What I'd like to do is convert it back to a Mortal Kombat.

I'm wondering if the old NFL Blitz control panel box is exactly the same as an NBA Jam control panel box? Not just the positioning and layout of the controls, but the dimensions and structure of the actual box as well?

I'm asking because I've got an opportunity to buy an NBA Jam cabinet without a control panel. If I could just swap out the joysticks and replace the overlay, that would be amazing.

I'm gunna assume your talking four player on both the nfl and nba. Pretty sure they are the same both structurally and button layout.

Yeah, 4 player. That's awesome. I'm going to get this gutted NBA Jam cab then. The one flaw in my plan is I do not have a Mortal Kombat control panel box. Boostin4hp sells the tops, but I'll need to figure out something for the rest of it.

Thanks for the confirmation!

I had to build one from scratch for my MK restore ... I THINK I actually built a second and if so you can have it if you like. I'll have to look tonight to see.

Holy cow! That looks incredible! That would be awesome if you have a second one. Who did you get your artwork from? Looks so good.

THANK YOU! --- I was very happy with the end results. I rebuilt every piece of artwork myself and printed it locally. EXCEPT the Marquee ... that I built the art but sent it to Joe Zsabo (Zsabos Arcades) to print because he reverse prints on lexan and the results are beautiful.

One thing to point out on MK ... it did not actually have a control panel hinge like MKII and onward (or even the NBA/NFL boxes) ... so the front of the box is completely flat without contour. The MKII and onward had a portion at the top of the front panel that was trimmed out to allow for a hinge. SO this box is built to be exactly like to original.

I DO have any extra control panel box ... it's not quite ready for graphics in it still needs some nail holes filled but it does have T-Molding slot already cut so its a great head start. It was built by following an original MK box exactly so you should have no issues with it. yours for free if you want to pay for shipping (should be around $15 if I ship UPS through my company)

Wow, nicely done jp3351. There you go given away awesome stuff again. I'm gunna have to log in to KLOV from my work computer so I can give you some overdue rep points! Btw great job on that scratch build box and HOLY SHIT, that MKI restore!!!!

I cannot get over how good that MK looks! Did you document your restore anywhere that you could link me to? That picture is my motivation! If mine turns out half as nice as yours I'll call it a success.

thanks guys --- I had been meaning to create a restore thread on the MK ... I will gather some pics and work towards getting that up. I will also link to all the artwork I created.
