So I bought a new light bulb for my cab and it still is not working. I am guessing I need something else. I tested to see if there is any current coming from the plug and there is. (not much of an electrician but it did register on my meter)... here is a pic of the left side, am I suppose to do something with that round piece in there??

That's the fuse. Replace it. It simply twists and comes out.

Thanks for the quick response Z!! Can these fuses be picked up anywhere or are they special? From what I see the fuse is missing. Also, do you know the amperage? Do you think if I take this fixture into Lowes or the like they would know how to help me?

You just need a FS-2 starter. Thats what goes in that hole you pictured. If you bought a new bulb then its not always a waste since they do burn out pretty often but thats all you need. I actually need to pick some of them up too cause I have 2 midway cabinets that need new starters lol...Lowes web page didnt have them listed on there but im sure they have them too. Ill be going there tomorrow to pick some up.

I went and picked up the FS-2 tonight, plugged it in, the light turned on for a second then (I think) burnt out. The machine was off when I installed the parts... I tried switching the Lamp Starter with the other one in the package and nothing... The bulb is 15W and (if it is still the original fixture) it too is made for 15W... any thoughts?

You probably have a bad ballast?

Although the light could have just been ready to blow. I wouldn't replace the light until you've confirmed that the ballast is good with a DMM or you could blow another bulb.

Ok, to be ignorant, I am not well versed on a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter?)... Here os a pic of what I own for testing and here is a pic of the back side of te ballast... Could you point me in the right direction? LOL

PS. I was told by a friends friend it could be a bad ground... How would I test the ground? N00b here...

Mod and others have said, "You can test one with a meter. Measure the ohms between the two wires. A good one will measure about 25 ohms. too much less and it will blow the bulb. too much higher and it won't light at all..."

Having said that your meter is pretty primitive. :) Try setting it to x10 ohms, put the leads on the two wires and see what you get.

I finally got to testing it, I ended up with about 1-2 ohms according to my x10 meter... I am guessing that puts me in the 10-20 ohms? if so, does this mean I need a new ballast? If so, are they available at a Lowes or Home Depot? Here is a couple pics of the test and the points I tested just to be safe I did it correctly.

Your meter is so imprecise it's hard to tell.

Gah, get a new ballast, a new bulb, and a new DMM. :)

Id replace the bulb first. Ive only had 1 fixture go dead on me and it was cheaper to replace the whole thing with one from lowes. I think it was like $10-$15 for the whole fixture. If you have a spare bulb then thats where I would start tho. They burn out pretty often. The old lght bulb shake trick works to see if its blown. Ive personally havent had many ballast go dead. just tons of bulbs and starters.

So I went and got a new ballast and here it is... The instructions say to follow the diagram on the back, no diagram. My question is this, since the original (top) has the longer wire on top and the replacement has the longer one on the bottom, does this mean it is reverse wired? Or should I wire it the same way I removed it?
