I bought a NFL Blitz 99 non working today and need some help figuring it out. When I first got it home and turned it on, The lights on the board came on but that was it. I checked and the voltage was low. Turned it up to 5.1 and now the harddrive is working with the board.

I am getting nothing on the screen though, and no sounds. Blitz is jamma so I pluged another jamma game in it, and It came right up. So the monitor and the wiring from the jamma harness is good.

Like I said, the harddrive is working, the lights on the board seem to blink on and off like they should. Shouldnt I be getting something even if there is a board issue?

Anyone shed some light on this? Board issue? Harddrive issue? Both?

Thanks in advance.

Does Blitz have a test mode?

The only thing I can think of is that something's happened to the hard drive that's causing the board to fail the POST.

Was this the one posted on CL in the 4 player Konami cab? Just curious cause I saw it and wondered if it might have been a TMNT conversion.

Check the dip settings, not sure if it's on the wrong resolution or not? Don't know if that would affect it, but even so something should of came up on the screen even if it was a scrambled picture? Blitz runs Standard and Medium res.

I believe there's a red light on the board that may flash when powering on but shouldn't stay on if everything is working properly.. check that also?.. if it's on maybe there's something just not lining up like the roms and a mix matched hard drive?

I had a bad hard drive but was able to flip the dip switch to make it boot to the test menu. I could do everything in test, but out of test the game would not do anything on the screen and would just keep trying to boot over and over.

I finally got a compact flash upgrade from ToplessZ and haven't had any more problems with it...

I tried all the resolutions just for shits and giggles, nothing came up.
All the lights seem to be acting correctly from what i read in the manual.

I fliped the test dip and it didnt pull it up. Is it sounding like a board issue? I Tried turning the game on without the HD connected hoping it would say "hd not found" or something, but still nothing.

I have no problem buying the replacement parts, i just want to know what I need so i dont waste money

when you find the parts you need you might get a few extras :).

You might have a bad Boot ROM...

why not upgrade it to 2000?

buy this kit:

you can buy it directly from him here..

The question you need to ask is: Is blitz a keeper game for you? If so, buy the upgrade kit. If your seattle board is bad, you will have what you need to upgrade/test any board you buy in the future.. Seattle boards are not that reliable. So you could easily have a bad board.

Ok what about going this route, Anyone who has a blitz could help me on this.

If you remove your HD and try and turn it on, does it give you anything at all on the screen? If it does then I have a board issue/boot rom issue, if not well at least im getting somewhere.

when i turn mine on without the hd, i still get nothing.

No, if you remove the HD, it won't do anything. i tried that with mine when I knew the HD was bad but wanted to keep using the test patterns for monitor testing. When I removed the hard drive, it did nothing. With it connected, it worked enough to get into the test menu, but wouldn't boot to play.

For $50, you could get a compact flash drive to replace the hard drive, and he can give you a working matched Boot ROM with it. The Sound ROM doesn't need to be changed.

And all this is assuming that you have a working game board, and that you have the proper voltages to it.

Have you tried replacing your IDE cable?

First off, thanks for the help

Ok so an update, I reset the chips on the board, changed a few dip switches, and now im getting somewhere. The games will now run its test mode. It passes everything, but it wont boot.so it must be a bad harddrive.

I want to keep it a 99, so Ill prolly just grab a HD off ebay.

If thats the way you want to go, just make sure the HDD you get matches your boot rom.. not sure if its an issue for 99, but you should ask..

It is an issue. My first CF didn't match my Boot ROM, so when I got it replaced I got a matching Boot ROM at the same time and then it worked perfectly...

Thanks for the tips

I sent the person on ebay selling them a message asking the questions you guys said here. He said there would be no problem and it will be plug and play working.

So we will see. I will post back here when I get it and let you know the outcome.

Thanks again!

I downloaded the chd off the net and using chdman from mame dev extracted the chd to a raw file to a hdd that file uncompressed is just over 6 gig. It took me 2 chd images from mame to get the right file but it worked.
