Hello, I'm new to the hobby and going through some growing pains...

Here's my story:
After years of thinking about it, I finally took the plunge and bought my first machine to add to my basement game room... an NFL Blitz '99 cabinet, 4 player in great condition. We loaded it up onto my friend's truck with a forklift and away we went.

Once we got to my house, we realized how tough it was going to be to get this sucker down my winding staircase to the basement. The machine is 37" wide and the staircase is 37.5" wide... in to the garage it went to figure out our next move!

We noticed that the cabinet itself is actually only 26" wide without the 4 player control box (since it hangs over the sides of the unit) so we should remove it for transporting it down the stairs. This being our first box, and having no idea how to do this, we started doing our homework and figured out how to open up the control box. We saw all the wires going from the controller box to the main board itself that would need to be disconnected to remove the box.

We're planning to remove it this weekend and complete the move. Does anyone have any tips, suggestions or things to look out for that could help us?

Finding this process really fun and interesting... already starting to dream of my next game

The control panel is usually secured with 2 latches and 3 hex bolts. The latches can be a pain to dislodge because they are sometimes really far and in the corner and difficult to reach. Once you unlatch it and unscrew the hex bolts with an allen wrench, just disconnect the molex connectors and you should be able to lift the control panel up and off without a problem. Before disconnecting the molex connectors however, I would suggest you get a marker and lable them so you know which one goes to which player, it'll be a pain otherwise when you put it back. Congrats on the purchase!

It's called a control panel.Just disconnect the harness and undo the hinges and your good to go. When you move it down the stairs just hook back up and reattach the control panel and lock it back down. Enjoy. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

One other thing to consider is many times the control panel (cp) is holding the monitor glass in place. If the glass is loose remove it before moving the cabinet. It usually just lifts out if the cp was holding it in place.

on blitz should have a metal plate that secures the glass in place, but remove that and glass its one less thing to break and reduces weight slightly, everything is keyed on the harness so easy enough to put back together but maybe tag each set of wires to make it easier, take a picture on your cell for ref? just little stuff helps, when its your first one :) good luck and Blitz is a great game!

Thanks for the help everyone... another question.

It seems like my scores and profile information in the game are not saving when I boot up the machine again. The cabinet has a hard drive and I've run the diagnostic test to see if it's working and it looks like it is.

Am I missing something?

I think the scores and such aren't saved to the hard drive itself, but in NVRAM.

try replacing the lithium battery on it. should be a CR2032.

Replacing the battery worked like a charm, and we were able to get the unit down the stairs with only minor wall scratches :)

Thanks everyone for the advice!
