newest STERN tease on facebook...

Tron's a go, mofos! Save your pennies! I think the only thing that would make Stern flinch is if the movie is a HUGE flop, as the pin is scheduled to release w/ the DVD in the Spring.

I say they fold it up. Playing games on FaceBook, what's that all about? They should be working their ass off in the back. I guess they think pinball is fun. ... and trying to use modern social networking sites to promote their stuff? Scandalous!!!! Hummpf. Bah Humbug.

lol. yeah, i don't have a problem with them using facebook either....it gets out to A LOT of folks. i think it's a great move, to be honest.

i think this will be my first NIB pinball purchase :)

if TRON does go into production is it better to buy one of the first ones OR wait for the special edition one (like avatar)?

pretty sure it's gonna be my first NIB as well....and pretty sure i'm gonna wait until the special edition.

That's the trouble Stern's gotten themselves into w/ this Limited Edition thing ....now people who WOULD have bought Tron are going to wait ...and if too many people wait, then sales won't be as good....and if sales aren't as good, maybe there won't BE a Limited Edition! Hopefully they'll realize that and announce upfront how many tiers of Tron there will be.

Hehe. if we were all the super ultra mega pinball business running experts we all act like Stern wouldn't be the only one :)

i have to agree with that.

there has been so much talk about stern and what if they went under as of late.
i say this, lets pool our resources and start our own pinball company.I'm completely serious.
stern will benefit from some healthy competition. and the world needs some fresh original pinball machines.and if they do make tron it will sell like hotcakes i predict.

Have fun! There's no arcade anymore...the very concept is obsolete. It's amazing that even Stern has been able to hang on this long making games that, for the operator, are difficult to maintain and don't make much money. Two companies competing to make a product not many people want would just kill both companies.

that's where i'm at right now....for those poo-pooing stern, don't worry. it'll likely all be over soon.

i just hope we get a few more killer pins between now and doomsday, 'cause doomsday's coming.

i know people love to bitch about licensed pins, but licensed pins > no pins, IMO. i hope stern hangs on as long as they can.

I sure have to wonder if Stern employees actually read RGP and then post what is discussed as a teaser. Is it not coincidental that the Muppets came up on RGP and last week a Stern Faceplant teaser of the Muppets was posted? Hmmmm

I hope Tron or Muppets is indeed the next pins and I sincerely truly hope these games are different from the last 3-4 pins Stern has put out. Cookie cutter games is a trend I see and don't much care for.

I do feel the days of originality are long gone and recycled ideas (in lesser and lesser form) are all that will be given until pinball takes it's last breath.

in for 2 million. as soon as i hit the lotto.i just hate to see pinball die off like so many things that i love. drive ins, soda pop in glass bottles etc.yes, you can still get soda in glass bottles but they are getting harder to find.that's progress.

Mexican Coca Cola for the win there. I always have at least one in the mini fridge in the room by the arcade ;)

Yea a friend whom went to expo this year. He told me during the Stern tour that if they make one "un successful" pinball it could put them under. Which is one of the reason's they do not make non liscenced machines.

They also said about 65% of their machines are exported and the oversea's market is the only thing keeping them going. I asked gary about non licensed pins and he said the licensing makes it cheaper and easier as far as designing the concepts, artwork, and gameplay.

EDIT: here are those numbers.

Licensed Games

Sales over 5,000: Lord of the Rings

Is that just initial run, or does it count the two "re-release" versions?

If I recall correctly, the response after the initial 7500 was so good, that the following year they did another 5000, then again the year after that. The re-releases had the grey Gandalf standing instead of the white Gandalf on the horse...
