pretty blatant. if a TRON pin doesn't happen, there's gonna be a lot of backlash considering how many times they've thrown it out there.

the caption under the photo was "cool magazine"

Yeah, when there was a picture of one of them "thiniking" i posted I hope they are thinking about a tron pinball machine. He posted back that he just may be. They like to keep the interest up with teasers, thats for sure.

I wish they would think about game design, good art, and prodicing an ORIGINAL, NON-THEMED game insted of "Oh, let's tease the internet people with stupid 'maybe' photos".

Stick to the stuff that will keep them in business.

Just sayin.

Chris

I agree with ya, but a non-licensed theme isn't going to happen anytime soon from what gary said.

You can't do that anymore. You need theme to sell these days. Heck, even in pinball's heyday during the 90s you couldn't sell without theme. I've got numbers, but non-themed games were very poor sellers in comparison.

EDIT: here are those numbers.

Licensed Games
Sales over 20,000: The Addams Family
Sales over 15,000: Terminator 2, Twilight Zone
Sales over 10,000: Indiana Jones, Star Trek: NG, Star Wars
Sales over 5,000: Demolition Man, Bram Stoker's Dracula, World Cup Soccer '94, Creature From the Black Lagoon, Doctor Who, Corvette, Judge Dredd, Jurassic Park, Hook, Last Action Hero,
Pirates of the Caribbean, Lord of the Rings, Simpsons Pinball Party.

Unlicensed Games
Sales over 20,000: None!
Sales over 15,000: None!
Sales over 10,000: Getaway, Fish Tales
Sales over 5,000: White Water, Road Show, Theatre of Magic

yeah...the dream of original/non-licensed pins is dead. that's what happens when you have a single manufacturer that cannot afford a dud.

but i'm cool with the licensed stuff. i'm praying for a TRON.....got about 90% of a green light from the wifey for a NIB purchase if it comes to pass. :)

Fully agree, something non themed would be nice.

Yeah, unfortunately this is the case. I UNSDERSTAND it, I just don't like it :(

Where is Medieval Madness in your list? 10 years from now, are people going to be clammoring for a licensed Stern title? I doubt it.

Chris

Yeah, Medieval Madness wasn't a good seller. I'm not sure if it was the theme or if operators felt it was too similar to Attack From Mars, but it didn't make much of a splash.

10 years from now, are people going to be clammoring for a licensed Stern title? I doubt it.

Chris

The Simpsons Pinball Party, Lord of the Rings, and Spider-Man will be solidly sought after for many, many years. It remains to see what kind of staying power Iron Man has, but those other three are deeply entrenched in the top 20 titles on most people's lists.

if stern goes under? absolutely.

God forgive me for saying this let alone for thinking it, but I have asked myself, "Self, if Stern closed their doors would you care?"

There are soooo many pinball machines out there right now to choose from.
Pinball hasn't been innovative in years. Like everything else in life all anyone does anymore is reinvent the wheel. And yet Stern continues to simplify their games to the point I don't even get excited anymore.
I keep hoping for the golden egg but all I get is a tired/worn out goose that can barely shit itself. I'm tired of keeping my fingers crossed. I had every intentions of buying Avatar if it was outstanding. It's the perfect game for a bar that'll get rotated. But for home use (for me and no offense to anyone else meant here) for me not a home option.

I would feel terrible for all the people who work for Stern. I hate to see anyone lose their jobs ya know?

And as far as Faceplant goes - freaking stern needs to focus their resources and energy on their own damn forum. Stupid thing is supported by the public instead of actual Stern employees. I had to email a tech directly and ask him to not respond to my email but reply to my post so the world can see the answer not just me. Luckily he was cool and did.

i like having new titles to choose from, even if they're the same old layout with different art.

if one is a good layout but a theme i can't stand and then a better theme comes out later, that's a win for me.

as was said above, there are tons of pins out there to choose from. nothing wrong with going for older, more established titles. nothing wrong with going for new sterns. hopefully we'll have the OPTION for many years to come.

Some people wouldn't care if they closed their doors, but most of us would. There would be no new machines to play at these pinball shows anymore or no being able to make that NIB purchase again.

I'm certainly not wishing death on stern - but I will say this.
I have an OP friend that let me play his fresh out of the box Avatar. Sweet deal huh? I loved it! Well, loved being able to play the fresh pin. Game play - meh.

Anyways, I asked him the other day how Avatar was earning. His response was, "As expected." Which I replied, "Which iiissss???"
"Did well for two weeks and now not earning shit. Ironman and Batman are still earning great."

So my question is, how is Stern going to stay in business when a new game isn't earning jack for these OPs? I am but 1 in a sea of pinballers and I realize my own opinion doesn't mean squat. But when an OP (doing it since he was a teenager) can't make money for more than two weeks off each location on a fresh title? EGADS I say! Don;t care who you are - that's just not good. If these machines don;t earn ol Stern is going to start losing more and more sales. And I live in the great Pacific NW where pinball is supposed be alive and thriving.

I say they fold it up. Playing games on FaceBook, what's that all about? They should be working their ass off in the back. I guess they think pinball is fun. ... and trying to use modern social networking sites to promote their stuff? Scandalous!!!! Hummpf. Bah Humbug.
