Today i get a email on the business account with the subject line saying " new design linkage".
I open it, and in broken English , it reads:
Dear Sir,

We have new design linkages 250 pcs, the price is very pretty.

If you are interested in them, please reply me. I will give you some pictures and price.

The pictures included showed the reproduction Food Fight linkage.
I asked myself why a Chinese company would knock off such a super specialized item. So I replied asking how much and why they would make such a specialized part.
She replied with:

Yes, in fact, we made more than US$6,000 value of parts for him, and he asked for shipping them to him and will pay us net 10days.

And he received the parts and said the part of linkage missing. So we re made again, but linkages are ready, and we required him to pay the shipped parts; he never replied us any more. :( That is why there are 500pcs left here.

But I don't know why the price is higher than yours. This is our cost price. I noticed that this item in the website of that customer, its price is US$40.00/pair.

I replied back asking if "him" was David Adams of RAM controls and if he had other parts made by them.

She replied:
Yes, it is him, David Adam of RAM Controls.

No, we sent all of parts to him, only one item--linkage, he said it is missing from broken box.

Thank you very much for your kind. But if you demand, you can buy some parts from us. I don't expect that you have them in stock.

So now he scammed a Chinese company out of $6k and he got all the parts that he is/was selling. He told me these were made by him at his machine shop.

so, one more scam and one more story for the history books.

Are you sure that "David Adam" isn't trying to dump off some of his inventory by pretending to be a Chinese manufacturer? He may be sitting on lots of inventory that he now has no way to get rid of and he's trying to dump it off on vendors (you) to recover some $$.

To me, the email reads like forced "engrish" like someone was trying very hard to make it appear it was from a Chinese company.

Can you check the email message header and trace where it came from?

Yeah, that's how I read it as well.

US$6,000 value of parts

At $40/pair, this is 150 pairs?

I wonder what the manufacturer would sell them for.

Also, I wonder what the overall market for them is?

vaps stats: said:
- There are 70 known instances of this machine owned by Food Fight collectors who are members.
- There are 4 VAPS members with Food Fight machines for sale.
- There are 25 VAPS members currently looking for Food Fight.

They're also used in the Red Baron controller...not that that's going to add a lot to the total.

I was thinking he was maybe posing as the manufacturer, but I guess they could find you that way, or that he could just up front email you with the deal I would think if he wanted to. I wonder how much of a savings and if it would be worth the hassle over 6 grand of anything to go overseas to get it made... sounds way too fishy.. wonder if any company overseas would even do something unique like this on a net basis..

I certainly don't know who wrote the e-mail, but the horrible English is no exaggeration. I get daily e-mails from Chinese companies that read like this all the time, companies I've never done business with.

This is from today, I x'ed out the specifics, but you get the idea.
