OK so this post is a long time coming but here's my latest pickup, the big one, Frogger.

Been looking for this one for a while, #1 on my short list, and i wanted it to be in the original sega woodgrain cabinet with no artwork.

Picked this baby up from fatsgt up in MD. Real short trip, nice weather, and easy to find even though my phone died 5 minutes before we got there. Fats is #1 not fat and #2 a hell of a nice guy with a hell of a nice collection! Was nice enough to show me and my buddy around even though he was working. Always love seeing other peoples collections.

So anyway, I sent him a $100 deposit the day the game was posted and then picked it up about 10 days later. When I arrived, the monitor colors were off though and there was a wave in the monitor. Other than that, it was in great working shape as advertised. Like I said, fats was working that day and he was on multiple conference calls.. but still took the time to not only degauss the monitor (and fix the colors) but show me how to use it which i really appreciated. I bought one that week. I had heard about this process but never had a game that needed it and had never seen it in person, pretty cool stuff.

Anyway, all looks good on the game otherwise, its in a really nice cabinet with just a couple dings. Insides are SUPER clean, all the original hardware is there, manuals also. The CPO is not in good shape but this was well documented before I purchased it and i am going to replace that and the cardboard bezel behind the monitor glass also since those are pretty easy to acquire these days repro'd. I also had some custom sideart made that should be here today or tomorrow.

So we strap her in and make the drive home. Get it inside and plug it in and the monitor looked like this:

I freaked out a little bit.. i just saw the monitor and it was not like this.. something must have happened on the trip home.. but it was a smooth trip. Give him a call and he apologized profusely for the trouble and suggested it needed to be degaussed again, perhaps a sensitive monitor. I agreed and thought I should get one anyway so bought one off ebay. After rotating the game 90 degrees into its new home and hitting it twice the the degaussing coil I got the colors looking real good:

So the only issue now is this wave in the monitor. It is constant from turn on to off, moving horizontally, the wave is shaped a bit like mountains and that is also constant. Also, while playing, every 20 -30 seconds or so the monitor can be seen "bumping" or "shifting", as if the wave had crashed into the side. This sounds really bad but when you play it's not too noticeable. The hits are, but not the wave. Regardless, as nice as this game is, i want this monitor fixed. Unfortunately I am a noob when it comes to monitor repair. here is a video where you can see the wave but I'm not sure if you'll see the shakes or not. Suggestions on where to start? All I've done so far is check the voltages on PS, which seem to be OK.

Here's a pic of the wave:

And a video:

Wanted to thank fats again for the great game, tour of the house and all the tech help so far, great great seller!

Cap kit fix the issue with the monitor you think? I'm sorry I did not grab the model when i was back there, forgot, but it is the original monitor that came with Frogger i assume.

I dont think thats a cap.. if it is ,, id say the filter cap. If its the stock monitor and it needed a cap kit.. you would know is all im sayin. it looks like holy hell.
But i think its a connection or ground causing that , i might even go so far as to check the board connectors and power section caps for ripple..
the last time i saw something like that , covering the power section with a shield/plate stopped it from interfering.

Move the game away from Ms. Pac and see if the wave goes away. I remember another user having issues like this.

monitor

It looks quite good for the most part. I would look at the ground and sync wires first then the adjustment pots. Make sure everything has a good ground connection and clean the connectors or replace them.

Yeah I agree especially considering how it looked when I got it home.

The wave is was there I moved it into its spot but I can swap burgertime in there np, will that be the same issue?

I have never in my life seen woodgrain with knots in it on the front of a Sega cabinet. I think someone "restored" the front of your Frogger with some new laminate or vinyl tack. Are the sides like that too or just the front?

I doubt it has anything to do with the machines being next to it since we saw the wave while it was in my garage and nothing close to it. I'm far from an expert but from I've read the best course of action, as said above is making sure the ground connections are good and the connections elsewhere and sure and clean. What monitor type is it?

One day I'll have an eye like this, lol.

I doubt this cab has been restored with new laminate. A quick search and I saw others like this.
