Newest Addition, Gaplus!

Nice looking pick up. One of my favorite games ever and played almost daily on my Mame machine. I am getting better at it, getting to parsec 12 regularly.

I think I usually top out around Parsec 21. The bugs change again on that level and become insanely fast. Also, since you guys were talking about cost, I paid $225 for mine. Got it from CL, and the guy wanted $250, but I talked him down since I had to replace the T molding (which I still haven't done 1.5 years later ;) ) It's pretty much cracked the entire length of it on both sides.

There is one in Fla for $400, and there was one recently in Atlanta for $400, and while I really like the game and want a dedicated cab i just can't justify spending that much for it (or almost any game actually).

I had a fairly nice one that worked great and I tried for months to sell it for $250. Then $200. Finally let it go for $100 (if I remember right) as part of a multi-game purchase.

I remember this as Galaga 3 back in the day, and that the cabinet sat in the local arcade with no one ever touching it.

I always found it to be quite difficult but, from a pure "game dynamics" standpoint, I think it's really cool and an excellent sequel to Galaga.

Parsec 6, suck it Gaplus.

Has anyone checked out the WR scores for this? There's a huge discrepancy between 2 and 3.

1) 1,393,200
2) 1,320,500
3) 137,000

All 3 are within a year of each other back in 85 / 86. One of you has got to be able to get 3rd, I'm up to 60k already.

Must be something with the original t molding on those cabs, mine was the same way, it took me a couple hours to pull the tmolding off of it, from all the flaking and cracking, it was a huge mess. Ironically, it took me all of ten minutes to pull the tmolding off of my 30 year old galaxian...

Sweet, that is a beautiful machine. I have always loved the Gaplus marquee. Never cared for the game being called Galaga 3, Gaplus sounds much nicer for me.

On the MAME version, I can get around 470,000 on difficulty 4 setting. Made it to Parsec 30, but did not have a very good game. Made a way too many mistakes.

On the arcade game back in the early 90's, my friend Rich could get 1,500,000 to 1,800,000 consistently. I think we had his machine set on normal or between normal and easy. Can't quite remember though. He was very good at the game, won many local contests. I could only manage 700,000- 1,000,000 back then, he was always kicking my arse.

There is a trick you can do on Parsec 1 to get the special ship.

1. On Parsec 1, let all bugs fly to formation and do not shoot any. And do not get killed. If done properly, a shooting star will fly diagonally past.
2. On bottom row of bugs, shoot the bug 2nd from the left. A 'flag with an S' will appear and a mother bug will fly down near it. Do not pick up the flag yet.
3. Try to get your ship ran over by the mother bug. If successful, you will die and your ships will turn into the special ship. This ship seems to fire a bit more.
4. Then on your next life you can pick up the flag for an extra ship to replace the one you lost doing the trick, sweet.

Or, if you can get to Parsec 30, you can earn the special ship that way, though Parsec 30 is extremely faster than regular Parsecs.

Ah, so you're the one who beat my score :D (someone else has since beat yours too). I don't have one on the arcade track, but on my machine, I can usually get 250-350K. Did you use a joystick for a keyboard for your 470K on MAME? (I used actually used a laptop keyboard for mine)
Oh, and that special ship you can get lets you fire 3 times instead of 2. If you have some of the bugs captured, they only still only shoot twice though. I did my game without it (I wasn't sure how to trigger it, so I played with the regular ship)

WOW! I didn't know about that! Awesome! I have been enjoying playing Galaga '90 (Galaga '88) on my TurboExpress, I really want to get that board and run it in my Galaga cabinet.

Gaplus is still my favorite of the Galaga sequels, but since it requires a 4-way (wouldn't want to run in my Galaga cabinet) and the board is almost impossible to find I doubt I will ever get one. Anyone want to sell me one at a good price? :D

I have NEVER seen a Gaplus cabinet for sale anywhere near me, I would so jump on it if it was!

The boards pop up for sale occasionally here. You should be able to buy one of those Galaga JAMMA adapters and play it in a JAMMA cab (I think they're wired up for 4 direction joysticks). Also, Gaplus is an 8-way game, not a 4-way. I liked the cab too. I wasn't really looking for a game at the time, but when it popped up on CL, I remembered I really liked the game and the cab was in really good shape, so I bought it.

LOL I should have known it was an 8-way! The thing is that Galaga is my only vertical oriented monitor game I have. I think I might get a Donkey Kong in the future, but besides the JAMMA adapter I would need to get a video inverter too.

You might have to flip the video as well. I believe DK has the monitor oriented 180 degrees from Galaga (I know Crazy Kong does, as I flipped the monitor in my Gaplus cab so I could play CK, and it's pretty much the same basic code). Nothing is ever easy is it? ;) Luckily my bootleg Pac-Man board I bought from Trickman also has the screen flipped 180 degrees, so that's playable, and I normally use a 48-in-1 in my Gaplus cab, using a JAMMA cabinet adapter, and the 48-in-1 has a dipswitch to flip the video. One of these days I'm gonna wire a couple DPDT switches in the yoke wires so I can flip the video without removing the monitor.

You can do that? What kind of voltage does the yoke get? Wouldn't that mess with the picture somewhat? I would think you wouldn't want to run the wires too long. Would a relay be better?
