That's right nerds, I got Gaplus. I picked it up a few weeks ago, from a guy on CL, playing blind. A deluxe kit from Bob and a new resistor, and it was back up and running again. Everything is original from the factory except the t-molding, all the serial numbers match. The cabinet itself is number 320.

I didn't do as thorough a restoration as I normally do, due to a lack of repro side art. That pretty much meant I couldn't clean up the corners or do any bondo work. Luckily, it was in pretty great shape. The previous owner said it was home use for most of it's life. Anyway, on with the pics.

Awesome cab brother! Great score!

Any pics of her up and running?

awesome get dude! If you don't mind me being forward with you, I may ask for your help in the coming months for some help reproducing a Gaplus marquee. I have a cab thats in decent shape, but need a marquee, and like you said, can't find repros anywhere. Only for Galaga 3.

Good find nonetheless! Good to know there are others out there.

Restoration? It is so hard to find original artwork for Gaplus as it is! It is my opinion that an original cabinet and original art with some scuffs and scrapes is far more desirable than a repainted cabinet with repro art.

My Mario widebody cab has original arwork and paint. It has some bumps and bruises and I LOVE that about it. I have been planning a Pac Man/Ms. Pac Man resto for a while too, but I realized once I took off the original paint, it wasn't original anymore.

You've got yourself a bona-fide Gaplus machine right there! I say keep it like it is and enjoy that original cabinet and art. It looks fantastic to me!!! :)

That looks great!! Congrats on the pickup! Funny story, I picked mine up playing blind as well. Well almost, it had vertical collapse. That side art is in amazing shape! There is a Gaplus in the wild in Pigeon Forge that I found recently, that has unfortunately been turned into a 60-1. Sadness..

I've got a dedicated one too, although mine is missing the instruction cards on the bezel (and the blank space was painted black..grrr) I think mine may have had a generic CPO applied too, although it looks similar to the original (it doesn't have the 1 and 2 player figures, it has clear plastic inserts around each button with labels). And yes, Gaplus=Galaga 3. All they did was replace a couple EPROM's to change the title screen. The bonus level that has the word "GAPLUS" in it still says it on Galaga 3. Hopefully whoever converted that one in Pigeon Forge used the JAMMA cabinet adapter and didn't hack up the wiring. I've got a 48-in-1 installed in mine, but did no modifications, just unplugged the board, plugged in the adapter, then plugged in the 48-in-1.

Thanks to everyone in the Monitor Help section, I got it running. It was my first time working on a monitor. It's really not as scary as everyone makes it out to be.

As far as "restoration" goes, I really didn't do much except clean the dirt off. There were some scratches in the side art that I fixed up with sharpies, and some edges of the art that I glued and clamped back down. I printed out new instruction cards as well. The hardest part was getting the old t-molding off. It was so old and brittle that it poofed into a fine red mist if you so much as looked at it funny.

I got pretty lucky, really. Most of it is in great shape. The marquee and bezel are both screened onto tempered glass (awesome) and neither were scratched up. I got it for a steal so I took my chances that I could flip the pcb and still make some money if the cabinet turned out to be crap.

Edit: My only complaint is that the game is hard as shit! I can't get past parsec 4 :(

Congrats on your pick up ... great game and freaking gorgeous marquee (one of the best out there, in my opinion).

By the way, if anyone is looking for one of these near Central Florida I know someone that is selling one. Shoot me a PM and I'll put the two of you in touch!

Nice looking pick up. One of my favorite games ever and played almost daily on my Mame machine. I am getting better at it, getting to parsec 12 regularly.

MilitiaMan, PM sent.

I picked this one up thinking that a dedicated Gaplus was fairly rare, but VAPS says it's pretty common? Are there just a lot of boards floating around or is this cabinet more common than I thought? How many of you guys have one?

I actually recently passed up on one because they guy was trying to work a trade with me that would basically work out to me paying him $600 for the game - not worth it to me.

And Bob saves another one... Congrats on the score!

What is the going rate for a working Gaplus? This was the first one I'd ever seen for sale.

I'm a proud owner! Well, if you wanna be technical, it has the galaga 3 roms, but still has all the gaplus side art! I was able to get mine for a hundred bucks, but it had complete vertical collapse and I had to put a new monitor in it. It spent its last 'wild' days in a pizzaria. Other than that, it has worked great ever since!
