(Ooooops, forgot the 'e') Thanks to Kenneth (kjeffery), I now have myself a new (to me) DK Cocktail table! Other than needing a cap kit, new wood grain banding, 2 glass top clips (anyone have any laying around?), and an interior cleaning, this thing is in great shape. Now I know a lot of people snub their noses at THIS game in THIS form, but I personally like this cabinet. It is the way I played Donkey Kong when I first saw it in 1982. The Melrose Arcade had at least 20 games in it, but I'll be damned if I can picture or remember very many of them. The ones I DO remember were a Space Wars on the East wall, and a DK Cocktail on the South wall. While my friend Ralph and I played Space Wars, you could always hear someone coining up and playing the DK Cocktail every 5 minutes or so, unless they were good, in which case you'd just hear that running sound and the hammer sound. The opening ditty and the 'death' sound will also be forever etched in my brain. Anyhoo, in my old friend Ralph's honor, this machine will sit near my Space Wars in Arcade Hades. Thanks again Kenneth. Pics:

Congrats! You finally found a DK to throw in the mix.

How's the feel of the controls? I've never played on the Nintendo cocktails, but it seems like it would be awkward to play with the controls sitting vertical.

It's fine for the way I play, less than 5 minutes at a time. That's why I am glad I am not a high-level competitive player. Little things like the orientation of the controls don't really bother me. I guess if I played it for 2+ hours at a time, it may get old, but if you start playing the game in this form, I am sure you get used to it.

Congratulations! Next pick up one of these. Lifting the tabletop to plug credits gets old fast! Speaking from experience. ^_^

I wouldnt bother messing with the woodgrain sides. That thing is in awesome shape. Nice score!

Nice looking cabinet. I'm sure you'll give it your restore touch but it looks pretty good for its age. Congrats.

Well, rest assured, paint will not be touching this machine. Before it arrived, I had already planned on getting the legs and chassis powdercoated. Now that it's here, I see no need to do so. The glass is barely scratched, so that stays too. The edge banding is peeling in a few spots and broken in others, so I will replace that and cap the monitor.

Blkdog will be here shortly to tell you how much of "the suck" Ninty cocktail cabs are...

They are quirky, but I like em. Nice score, jigga.

Yeah, he's always trying to bring me down, but I've learned to ignore his nastiness. Thanks man, I am so happy to finally have a DK again.

nice pickup! it's weird with the odd control setup, but it takes no time to get used to it. plus, you don't see too many of them in cocktail form (except on ebay for 900+) so they're kinda cool. i like them as they have a smaller footprint than midway cocktails, and are closer to an atari cocktail size wise. here's a pic of mine, serial # 165. the only thing i need to do to mine is replace that woodgrain band as well.

Great pickup Phet.

I was also one of those people that played these BITD. The controls are no problem for me (I can switch to the UR with no problems).

Post when you replace the woodgrain band. Mine also needs that and I'd like to hear how it turns out and where you got the band.

I've got one too, and the controls don't bother me. I actually like the jump button, it's smaller and seems to have less travel, so it seems more responsive. I like the size of the cab too...I can haul it in the back seat of my car (I've had it to a couple arcade shows). Also, if you want to try D2K, it should work on the board unless it's an early one with the Z80 soldered. It'll have a 4-board set regardless, since the 2-board set doesn't fit. Mine had the Z80 socketed, so it was an easy addition.

Nice! The only thing that rubs me the wrong way about Nintendo cocktails is all that wasted space on the table top. I wish they had added more art or something. I guess you can put your whole sixer on top there and not have to get up for a new beer.

I used oak veneer on my mine and finished it with polyurethane. I think it turned out great, although not original.

I am gonna try a walnut finish. That should be pretty close to what's on there. Does yours have thin white mounting/ weather strip all around the perimeter between the white top on the top glass?

Yes. When I got mine, it had no glass and was beat to death. It was missing a majority of what looked like felt as the glass was not there to protect it. The weather stripping worked well for me.

OK, cuz mine has the original felt on it then. Just making sure it's supposed to be there.
