Hey everyone, I just received my Food Fight cabinet from my eBay purchase and realized it has some screen burn. From reading around the forum it sounds like that is unfixable, but I'm just curious as to what the future holds. Is this something that can be replaced someday?

In a world where CRT monitors are dwindling, is this something I should do sooner than latter? Is there some company out there still manufacturing these old CRTs?

Thanks!!

Is the monitor original? Take a look at the circuit board for it. I'd bet its a Disco. If so, you might be able to find a replacement tube for it in an older 19" TV. Tube swaps are a bit tricky, but can be done. Sometimes you can get lucky and end up with a brand new tube.

You'll be looking for a 10 pin neck (CR31), and I believe the yoke will ohm out at about 45 ohms vertical, and somewhere around 2-3 ohms horizontal. The tube is a 19VKUP22 I believe.

If you want to replace the whole monitor, watch the buy sell forums here for something close -- you'll find something eventually.

If you DO pull out the DISCO, let me know. I could use the chassis.

1. You can put a different monitor in it - with no screen burn
(This is the least labor/knowledge intensive - but most expensive)

2. You can find a monitor tube and swap it with the original one
This option requires more knowledge and skill.
- Learn about discharging a monitor
- Find a tube that is an acceptable candidate
(right pin configuration on the neck / right yoke impedance (unless you're using the original yoke - but then you have to deal with convergence)

There's lots of information out there on tube swaps. Read, ask questions, determine what you're willing to try.

Good luck
