Hello!
I just scored an upright Atari type 1 cabinet RoadBlaster! It seems to work well (controls, volume, coin op, etc.) but the monitor is really kinda shot. I have ghosting images, and the brightness doesn't seem to adjust too well with the knob in the back.

Any advice? It's fun to play...but it has to be really, really dark in the room to see it! What is involved with a monitor switch-out? Is this something easy?

(my appologies for any incorrect word usage, or posting in the wrong place. As I said, I'm a newbie!)

Probably the monitor needs to be rebuilt. You might see if you can turn up the screen pot on the flyback next to the focus pot. Not too much. Someone may have adjusted that for some reason. Also the tube and bezel viewing area may have a film of dirt or nicotene on it making it seem dim.

Since your new, Ill advise you to stay away from the anode wire (red wire from flyback to tube), just in case you didnt know it already. If you know how to discharge it, then youll be ready for a rebuild. First you need to determine what kind of monitor you have.

RoadBlasters is a great game. Love mine. Just wish I had the cockpit model.

Thanks for the advice! I had it plugged in using a heavy-duty extension cord before, but now it's plugged in directly to the wall and the pic seems much better. Maybe it's a coincidence. Part of the problem may have been that it hadn't been turned on in a long time.
