I am a newbie to the forum and this is my first post.

I have a Williams Flash pinball with a problem. The game appears to start up OK. When you play the first ball and it returns to the out hole, the game does not recognize that the ball is there. It does not eject the ball for next play and does not indicate ball number 2 is in play.

I have checked the hole switch and diode all the way to the connector and it measures correctly with the switch closed (and open). I guess the next step is to check the driver board row and column switch input. Any ideas?

What is odd is that this was working when I played it before I bought the game at the sellers location but has never worked after I got it home.

Thanks

I had a simular problem on my World Cup (system 3) I left some of the dip switches in the on position after I made some changes so I turned them all off and no problems since and I've played 50 games since then. If it's not that then reprogram in the number of balls per game. More than likely it's in the cpu or driver though, but you may get lucky with the stuff I mentioned.

Where are you located?
It would be a good idea to add your location in the upper right hand corner under your join date. You can do this by going to the user CP. This way there maybe somebody close that could help you out.

Thanks for the quick response!
Glennon,
I just checked the master command DS1 switches on the CPU board and are set as follows:
8 - OFF
7 - OFF
6 - ON
5 - ON
4 - OFF
3 - ON
2 - ON
1 - ON

I am just beginning to get familiar with the game and settings. Not only a newbie to the forum, but also this is my first game. I read the manual on the sw settings but didn't see an explanation for sw's 1 through 5. So from what your saying I should return them all to OFF and try again. I never messed with them since i brought the game home however.

Right now I have the power, driver and cpu boards out of the cabinet. I was going to give them a once over look at for any issues. Once I finish that I will reinstall and give it a try. It would be nice to have such a simple solution.

Thanks,
Fred

I think flash is system 4 but it's basically the same as my system 3. You should only turn the dip switches on to set options and replay scores but after you have entered them then they should be put back in the off position. At least that is the way my system 3 works. Mine was doing other wacky stuff too but one i noticed the dip switches were still on I turned them off and not a single problem since. It's worth a shot .

Some Flash machines are system 4...others are system 6. Flash apparently had a really long production run. Easiest way to tell....what color are the flipper ROMs? System 4 is very much like your system 3.....with system 6, the settings got a bit more user friendly.

Sorry Edward but I'm not familiar enough with the cpu board yet to know how to determine what to look for on system 4 vs 6.

There's going to be a series of numbers etched into the corner of the MPU board. They will end in a -6, or -4, or -3, etc. Also, you have ROMs called "flipper ROMs". The label on them will say "flipper ROM"....if the label hasn't fallen off. The label will be colored....green paper, yellow paper, white paper, etc. Each system generation had it's own flipper ROMs.

green = system 6
white = system 3
yellow = system 4
blue = system 7

Enough information to really confuse you :)

Edward the game I have appears to be a system 4.

Just wanted to give you an update on the issue. The out hole wire have 2 problems making its way to the driver board. The first I found was at the play field to head connector. I remember cringing as I watched the previous owner help disconnect the cables at each connector to get the head disconnected from the box. He grabbed them from the wires and yanked. Evidently my concern was valid as I found the white/gray wire no longer connected to the pin. However, after fixing this problem the out hole wire still was not making the connection to the driver board. It turns out that the connector at the driver board was intermittent. I could wiggle the connector and it would connect but then disconnect again. The female pin for this connection was not making good contact. I fixed this issue and now the game is working once again.

Now on to other issues .....................
