I've been a Pinball fan ever since I was a kid. Now that my son is two and I would hate to have him miss out on real pinball it was time to buy one. Since the budget is low and I wanted to learn about fixing and maintaining them before I put allot on cash out. I found a Shaq Attaq in well played condition with a few issues for cheap. I'm not a big fan of basket ball or Shaq but I find it to be fun pin to play. I look forward to learning from the veterans here and upgrading in the future.

Congrats. Get ready buddy. Trust me this will not be your only pin. When I bought my first pin Star Wars Episode 1, I thought that would be it. 4 pins and 2 arcade machines later and I am looking for another pin right now. Good luck and enjoy. It's hard to believe my 6 year old son loves the pins and arcades more than Xbox 360.

My 6 year old can't get enough too. He only plays when I play the machines though.

Congrats on the purchase. What are some of the issues?

Pinball Wizard DMD works

Done so far
Repaced Cenetr shot target
Added coin door lock
Started cleaning it up

Needs so far
needs some bulbs
new balls
new rubber
one upper flipper sticks (identified issue need to buy parts. The Link is binding on the plundger)
Replace broken plastics (Need to learn how to make some or find them)
Some of the leds are out on the basket counters (Can I just fix the bad leds or do I need to find a board)
a good cleaning

If you're looking for hard-to-find parts, check out the rec.games.pinball newsgroup (you can access from googlegroups if you're not familiar with usenet). Hundreds of posts per day there, great source of info and parts.

I just got my first pin myself to get my feet wet. Man I have been missing out! So fun!

I just have some odds and ends to do to it, clean it up, light bulbs, new rubbers. Starting the simple stuff

congrats on your first pin pickup!!!!

i'm probably in the minority, but i actually like shaq attaq. not a huge shaq fan, but i do like bball. i played the hell out of one at an auction a while back. IMO, the gameplay is pretty darn cool.....it's just that the artwork and sounds are horrid. LMAO!!!

and it's funny i saw this thread today......i've been texting back and forth today with my pinball guy about picking up a shaq attaq for a solid price (IMO). it's in working condition, just needs cleaning and some new bulbs from what i recall. it's definitely worth it, IMO, and i can't wait to snag it. i know some others wouldn't take it if they were giving it away, but again, i like the gameplay. just wish i could add a new soundtrack to it. LOL!!!

oh, and most of those "issues" you listed are very minor....and this is coming from a guy that is about as worthless with electronics/etc as anybody you're likely to meet. :)

I agree with you about the artwork but its a fun game to play. That's all that matters to me right now. I think I would like to own a few of the less popular games that are fun to play than one popular game.

Although if I were to have my dream pin. One I actually played in real life at the National Pinball Museum not just read about it would be be Capcom's Big Bang Bar. It's artwork is excellent and it was fun to play. So please everyone tell your friends post it every where Capcom's Big Bang Bar sucks so I can afford that pin as well.
