Howdy all

Thanks for letting me join your forum. Not bragging but, know very little about this sort of thing (I have helped repair older pinball machines...)

In my local dump (I shop there sometimes) there's an "older" (70's?) machine. It's not a true pinball machine...no flippers. Here's the details I do have...

i) Appears complete and, rumour has it, the machine was functional when discarded.
ii) It was made by Allied Liesure Industries of, Hieleah Florida
iii) It's called Monte Carlo, it's a "driving game" where a pinball is guided through a maze by tilting th table with use of a steering wheel and, pedal
iv) It's rough...apparantly overwintered outside...

Who knows anything about this? Is it worth the time and, trouble to pull it from the landfill? I'm pretty adept in the repair word but, with some things (and, boy, do you learn it the hard way) quick repairs can de-value something...

I'm a newbie but, will check here often for details. Thinking about borrowing a truck and bringing it out on Wednesday (if it's worth the trouble)

Any/all replies apreciated and, if it's one of those questions "long term" participants in this forum have addressed before, bash away!

Is this what you are looking at?

If it is then it would be a cool machine to restore. The playfield (the area the ball travels on) would be the biggest problem. If it is in bad shape then the machine may not be worth your time.

Where do you live and do you intend to keep the machine or sell it?

Welcome Camster, I think I've heard of that game but not positive. If it functions like a typical pinball machine it would make a good practice machine for you and to see how the insides work. I learned how to build car engines by ripping apart a SB Chevy and that cleared up alot of Q&A for me. There is nothing like hands on!

Jeepers...couldn't have found a better forum!

Next time I'll try to find an arcade forum where I can good and, fast replies (PLEASE-insert wee-titter here)

Serioulsy, thanks for the fast and, useful replies.

The table's top (plastic maze) is in good condition (complete). The game's housing is a little rough and, not too sure if the original had glass or, plastic(plexiglass/lexan) covering it.

I'm not looking to make lots of $'s on it. I have a very, very hard time seeing things in the 'ol landfill that shouldn't be there... Plus, I thought my 6 year old may get a charge out of some old-timey good arcade fun that doesn't have an LCD screen (not anti video but, c'mon, the kids today just don't know!) Might look cool in someone's bar/rec-room (of which, I don't have!)

I'm in Ontario, Canada. About an hour north of Kingston. I will pull it from the dump on Wednesday (along with a complete Gremlin/Sega Astro Blaster)

Thanks for the pic also...that's the one! Will update on Wenesday (dump's closed tomorow)
I apreciate the info so far.

Have a great evening (off to no-internet, no rec-room home!)

Welcome, yet another member from my neck of the woods! (I grew up in Kingston) That Monte Carlo looks like it would be a neat restoration project. I found a YouTube video about it:

compared with pictures..

Considering the breadth of this forum...Ottawa is still "my neck of the woods" too! Thanks for the vid...currently on slow dialup so watching will have to wait until this eve!

Looking at the pics pf the original, the biggest differences I can see are:

-No seat is attached to the one I was looking at.
-The "top" (glass or, plastic) is the same but, in the pics it's reatined by what looks like a strip of aluminum whereas, the one I'm looking at, has oak (cut with no mitre saw!!!) trim, held on with robinson screws. Also, there are 2 keyed locks (no keys...) that have been "added" to the top...

Will ad pics once I drag the thing home.

The flyer lists the seat as an optional piece. I bet many of the machines never had seats attached.

The new retaining mechanism for the top may be OK, so long as it is sturdy, looks good, and safe (splinters would suck). Locks are easy to drill out, I plan to drill out a lock this afternoon in fact.

I'm from a small town and, a favourite adage : "Locks keep the honest people out".(Oryk PLease, don't "read into" that!) Slivers are possible but, not likely. It's been varnished etc...just not original metal. Shouldn't brag about this [in cyberspace] but, snuck out of the office to watch that tube vid (thanks!!!) and, that machine has locks on it also.

I'm a complete newbie to this forum and, hobby but, I'm guessing that these things may have been available to "home users" as well as arcades...I doubt the home models would need locks (mine will...single dad to 6 year old son!).

I was referring to removing the locks in order to gain access to the machine. I have to drill out a lock so I can get into the backbox of a pinball machine this afternoon. If you intend to repair this machine you will need to get inside it.

Of course, many of the older machines have the lock cores there but they aren't functional. It is always a good idea to try and open the locked compartment before drilling the lock...

I'm sorry.
I was joking about the locks. I'm guessin' you're more than a "dump shopper" to have identified AND, provide a picture of the machine in question in a very few minutes. I understand they [locks] have to circumvented from time to time for very legit reasons. (If they weren't, you'd probably not post it in cyber-land)

Thanks for all the great info so far!
