Greetings all,
Got the pin bug. Never had one, or played them as much as video game arcades growing up in the 80's. But we just bought our first house and want to fill up my new bonus room/gameroom/mancave.
I was searching through the classifieds and met a nice fellow out in Richmond, Va who has probably the best game room for pinballs ive ever seen. All the top titles, with mods, decorations, you name it.

Well i played a few machines, including Elvis and Attack from Mars (which will be my next one) and started looking for an Elvis machine. Found one from a dealer at what i thought was a good deal and will be here in about 2 weeks.
I already ordered some extra balls and pin cabinet protectors. I plan on getting some pro pin speakers and outfitting the machine with LED's.

There doesn't seem to be much of a pin support network, stores or places to play pinball machines that ive found out here in my immediate area. If there is anyone out in my neck of the woods that are pin aficionados, give me a shout.

Just want to say thanks for all the advice on these threads as ive gone through almost everyone and soaking up what knowledge i can.

Congrats! I've been really jonesin' for an Elvis lately myself....there's one at one of my local movie theaters. It's a bit slow and the flippers are kinda weak...but they have the sound CRANKED and that's part of the fun right there. Any game that sings is a friend of mine! :)

welcome.....and i hope you have alot of space hehehe,

i was stationed at ft lee for 5 yrs, i miss it actually,

there is a elvis at a pizza joint here and its got a few issues but i would buy a working one definately!

Elvis is a fun game to own. Remeber you get one pinball machine, they will multiply. Soon you will have to find another room to fill. :)

Elvis is great. There are like 4 of them on route within 10 miles of my house.

I have a local pinhead friend with one in excellent condition. I helped him install an LED package - it looks great. He also did the cointaker LED backbox light board. That one is expensive, but it looks most excellent with the color change effect.

Thanks for the welcomes!!

That was definitely Kevin. Great guy. Which he lived closer.

Working on my second pin even though the first one hasn't showed up yet.

I really like Elvis. Love the sounds. Would like to own one some day. I believe Steve Ritchie designed it, so no wonder it plays well.
That is the pin I've found the most out on location. The title seems to do really well, when it's working.
Congrats and welcome to the forum.

I've never even seen an Elvis pin, but I'd like to play one someday. Sounds like a good game, and a good candidate for the speaker upgrade!

Regarding the LEDs, I would seriously check out pins with LEDs before sinking money into them. Personally, I do not like LEDs in a pin, except perhaps for a few isolated locations. They are simply too "strobey" for the controlled illumination, and make my eyes hurt. They can seriously distract from the gameplay. A friend put white LEDs in the backbox, and they were extremely dim--couldn't really tell if they were on in daylight. For home use, regular incandescents (what the pins were designed for) are fine--no problems with heat or anything for a game that is probably on for a couple of hours or so per day, and not even every day. If you are really paranoid about this, get some #47 incandescents. And if you want to add some visual "pop" to the game, try putting in some appropriate colored bulbs (#44 or #47). They are cheap: $3/box of 10 at pinball life. Any of these options is far preferable to putting LEDs in a pin, imo.

I'm in the other camp. I prefer LEDs, particularly in the newer pins. They are just so much more vibrant. I've seen an SM with LEDs right next to one with incandescents, and the one without the LEDs looked downright drab in comparison. I will admit that LEDs do not have the same fade characteristics, but I still believe the positives outweigh the negatives. LEDs have richer color, consume less power, and last a heck of a lot longer. That being said, I do think some people tend to overuse them. Certain games, especially older ones, simply look "wrong" with them installed.

Definitely IMHO, but I prefer incandescent bulbs overall. I do have a few LEDs in my Spiderman though:

1. The top two Venom inserts
2. The Battle Royale Inserts
3. The blue flasher at the top left of the backboard (PBL 5 LED flasher)
4. The red flasher at the top right of the backboard (PBL 5 LED flasher)
5. Green flashers under green goblin (PBL 5 LED flashers)

Hey sup brotha! Im no pro expert but def an affianado, I used to live in va, and still have family there. If I get back out that way ill have to try and track you back down.

I have played elvis pin as well, def a good one!
