Newbie guy doing Newbie things..Astro Blaster help req'd

Howdy all

As stated, I'm a "newbie" to this forum and, arcade machines in general... I recently pulled a couple out of my local landfill. One "Monte Carlo" from Allied, an Electro Mechanical set with a maze. It's pretty simply constructed and, is now up n' running (without sound...)

The other is an Astro Blaster (possibly mini-cabinet). It doesn't work...(I'm a "fixer" and just love it when I ask "What's wrong?" and, the reply is "It doesn't work..." Now, I'm doing it...

The machine will "power up" and show a garbled picture on the CRT. You can hear a fan spool up (cabinet cooler?) and, that's pretty much it. There is a "de-magnetize" button and a "service" button inside...pressing either has no effect. If the coin switch is manually toggled the counter will cycle up. I have downloaded a manual but, the pics are not identical to the machine I have. It may just be a "connection" issue (there are stickers on plugs a-f that correspond with stickers a-f where they get plugged in...un-fortunately no "c" to plug in...)

Curious about "trouble shooting" something like this. One member (Fellow Canadian !) has offered some input that'll I'll be following up but, I'm also welcome to other "step by step" things as well. I have a bit 'o' electronics background and, will certainly be cautious near the montitor n' board (High Voltage issue...)

Any replies apreciated and, thanks

MODS: I'm a memembr of other forums and, there's usually a list of "stickies" that prevent newbies like me from asking the same things over n' over...please guide me to such a section, should it exist.

Hello again all...

Wondering if someone out there has a Gremlin/Sega Astro Blaster (mini) that works? I'd love a picture demonstrating how the PCB's are actually connected...not too sure this one is correct!

Most important, there is a PCB with connector pins running down it's entire length...that's a pic I'd LOVE!

Thanks all

you mention you have a garbled image when powered up. That can mean one of two things.
1. you board is not booting properly
2. your monitor is not adjusted properly. likely out of sync.

You said you credited the game. Did you push the start button? Were there any game play sounds? If you hear the game playing the issue is likely the monitor. If there is no sound I would lean more towards a board or power issue. First thing to do would be to measure the power supply to make sure you have the correct voltages. It's possible the board is not booting due to a power issue. Although it may definitely be something else.
