I have a 360 Arcade version with 60GB HDD. It's white. It was $99 last Black Friday. I never touch it. My son messes with it.

I want to connect it to my existing WiFi.

Do I just need a simple Linksys Wireless Access Point? Do I need another Linksys Wireless Router?

Help a newb out here.

Thanks.

The old 360's did not have built in wireless, so no. You either need to buy an adapter for your 360 or hard wire it with an Ethernet cable.

Right now I have a cable from my 360 to my laptop. Works fine. Why can't I swap my laptop with a wireless access point?

You could. You can get a router to use as a wireless access point for cheaper than those Microsoft adapters.

I'm glad my Tivo worked with cheap linsksys usb adapters.

I know it's not wifi ready, but why can't I run a short ethernet cable from the 360 to a Linksys access point?

I just misread what you wrote - I don't see why that wouldn't work, but I haven't set that up myself.

I did exactly this. My XBOX 360 connects to my LAN via a Linksys wireless router. You need a wireless router with client bridge or repeater bridge mode if you already have a wireless N or G access point on your LAN, to create a wireless network bridge.

I bought a Linksys WRT310N wireless N router for this purpose, but this model router does not have a client bridge mode (curse you, Cisco Linksys!), so I had to replace the firmware in it with DD-WRT (be warned, this isn't for the faint hearted...).

How difficult is this to do? I have a WRT54G here somewhere...can I flash it?

You CAN, but be prepared to do a bit of reading to determine which firmware...

WRT54G

Usually you have to flash the router with the 'mini' version of the firmware, before you flash it to a 'std' build. I am using Build 14929 on mine, as I had freezing and heat problems with my WRT310N under the SP1 version.
