i was wondering if anyone has tried one of these power supplies, and what kind of results did you get for the money

Williams games, especially Defender were designed specifically to work with their linear supplies.... that big ol' honkin' 18000uF cap on the supply board keeps your high scores from getting wiped out when you turn off the power. Switchers are notorious for causing loss of high scores on these games.

Its cheaper to rebuild the linear... there are a few around that can do that for you for about the same price as buying a switcher...

Well said.

Besides, if you really want to take the easy way out, you can get a switcher from Bob Roberts for $45.

But you are way better off rebuilding the linear.

never tried the one in your link. I've put a regular switcher in mine. The game works great and the majority of the time it maintain the high scores. I do make sure to power defender on and off by itself though so that may help. Occasionally I will lose the high scores but that's usually after the machine has been off for some time. Weeks usually.
