New video for the MCR attract sound mod...

Thanks for the video, Keith and nicely done.

I have been thinking of doing this to my TRON and SH, but was thinking of using a remotely mounted button (by the service swtich) to make it a little easier to turn on/off from the front. What voltage is running through that resistor and would using a variable resistor provide any additional benefits?

This is really neat tutorial/find! Question though, do all Bally/MCR games have odd little white sprite static on them when they change screens or colored lines/garbage on the sides/corners of some of the screens? I noticed it in my tron where I just had the boards repaired. I also noticed this was the case of a few other tron machines i've played recently including the one in this video but just wanted to make sure.

Spy Hunter... my cab plays the Spy Hunter theme every once in a while... is it supposed to? If I do this mod, I guess I get all the rest of the attract sounds (engine, shots fired, etc...)

I still can't find that resistor in the schems... heh.

The spy hunter theme comes from a separate PCB. This mod only affects the sounds generate on the SSIO.

Exactly...don't want to have to open up the back to flip that tiny switch every time.

It's supposed to play every once in a while if you have the attract music turned on with the DIP switches. You can check your setting through the menus. I had one that played randomly, and after fighting it for a year or two, I picked up a new CSD that fixed the problem.

I'm sure you can use a remote switch if you wanted to. I chose this route. I didnt measure voltage and I'm not sure if a variable resistor would work. Somebody more technically advanced could probably chime in on that one though.

The Satan's Hollow I think would drive me slowly insane though, LOL.

There is one problem with having attract sound in SH. About every 15 minutes or so the "shield" sound gets stuck and will stay on until the next gameplay screen, about a minute or so. I may turn it off for that reason.

Thats pretty common for MCR games. It's very noticeable in my Tron because I have the freeplay chip active, and for some reason it skips some of the on-screen instructions, score vaules and so on. Anyone else having this problem? My board has also been repaired.

Spy Hunter is a slightly different breed from what I understand, not sure if this mod will work. It's intended for MCR games that never had attract sound.

I just did this trick with my SH. Yeah the shield thing caught me by surprise, but I still prefer having attract sounds so I'm gonna keep them on.

Finally found R135 on the schematics, so I can say how and why the mod works...

Just for reference, there's an easier way of doing this mod without pulling that resistor out. :)

good luck he will milk this krap for 5 years

btw, just clipped my resistor for now. Now if i could figure it out for the rest of my quiet games id be happy as hell

Yes, unfortunately he likes to tease like that and then not follow up apparently. He did that recently to a thread of mine. I begged in my thread and via PM to no avail. :(

Just curious, does it look like you can control the volume during the attract by changing the resistance of R135?

If I wasn't 200 miles away from my games I know the answer to this already. :D (or I guess I could look at the schematics... but what fun is that?)
