New tron trailer whoooooo!!!!!!

After watching that trailer, I am less excited about seeing it... Looks like more flashy graphics, with a generic storyline with nostalgic characters to get people to pay the $22 for the ticket. Maybe I'll pass.

I'd like the KLOV'ers to ID the cabs under tarps in the old arcade. As the new actor walks by I can clearly spot an Asteroids Deluxe on the right. I wonder if they were smart enough to keep the setlist from the first film?

Go for it people. I don't see an Asteroids Deluxe, I'm pretty sure that's a Spy Hunter. I can also see a Mario Bros in the overheard shot. Can't make out much else.

First Row (right side):
- can't tell
- Make Trax
- (Marquee looks like Galaxian?)
- can't tell (washed out)
- Wizard of Wor?
- can't tell (washed out)
- can't tell (washed out)

First Row (left side):
- Buck Rogers ?
- can't tell (washed out)
- Joust

Next Row (Left side)

Anybody else care to guess?

I think the first one on the left is Space Paranoids. Squint your eyes and look at the marquee.

I finally found a site that the f*&*&^ filewall didn't block. The one thing I like about the new movie is that there is some real continuity in the scenes. The original was built in chunks by about a dozen different graphics companies and the different scenes could have some very glaring lapses in continuity. As well as very different artistic qualities. The new one looks more cohesive, even if the storyline and acting will probably take a backseat to the visual effects. Especially with all the new 3D toys they have to paly with in the theaters. I'm stoked anyway. I'm a computer graphics freak anyway.

Be seein' ya programs....

The marquee shot in the new trailer is from different shot in the old trailer. Below are shots of both for comparison. Notice the old shot shows a very dirty marquee while the new one is clean. The "blue" in the marquee looks to be from a cool gray gradient on the inside the letters and a warm gray in the bevel around the letters. It doesn't seem to be a 3 step gradient using blue at all; unlike the very clear transition in an original Bally/Midway marquee. I think the blue is simply a function of the gray gradient fading through to white. Transitioning from black to white smoothly is rather touchy to achieve properly with out a very particular blue, you tend to get an obvious gray stripe in the middle; so it stands to reason that they simply used a very cool gray/black or a very dark blue/black and transitioned to white for the prop piece. It seems clear that there is no blue in the old shot which further leads me to believe it's just not there. I think the one Rich produced is VERY close and obviously was printed with a lot more quality than any prop piece was.
