I got a new trackball and shafts from Jim Rase(YodaInMn) last week for free(thanks Jim) and was anxious to put these parts in. I've never done one of these so it was a lot of fun. I took everything apart and cleaned each part; and I left the 4 roller bearings in "gunk" (heavy duty cleaning solution) for 4 days to make sure all of the old dirt and grime came off. I blew them out with compressed air after that. Upon reassembly I then oiled the bearings with 3 in 1, and let me tell you this thing is like butter now! I can't believe the difference in gameplay. Its SOOOO smooth. Too bad the rest of my control panel looks like crap.

Thank Dave from RAM controls, these were his on the FF giveaway, I was just the temporary middle man in all of this. Nice to see you got that thing back together John!

Congrats! In the time it took ya to clean the bearings, though, you could have ordered new bearings (5) from Thee Bob and had them delivered and installed as well. Just touch up the CP around the Trac-Ball with a little spray paint next time you have the Trac-Ball assembly out.... or get the repro overlay.:) You got the Braze multi-Game yet?;)

The bearings were still surprisingly tight so I just reused them. Of course I'm a tightass and try to save money all the time LOL. Sometime I will put a new overlay on and paint the front of the game and redo the coin door. I'm not too into the multi-games....

Given that you soaked the bearings for a long time, I'd say you should probably open that thing back up in a couple of weeks or a month and oil them again, just to be sure.

Actually, the Braze Missile Command kit is not a bad idea - easy install and 100% reversible and adds some interesting stuff:

I looked at that link and I have seen that before. Looks cool, not a bad price at all. Something to consider later on. If I spent any money on MC right now it would be for a cpo, though.

I have a pretty nice original Missile Command Control Panel. I also have a Full Wrap CPO. You can view them here if you like. Just click on the box to the right where is has Control Panels for sale http://www.flickr.com/photos/djdns/

I'm constantly looking at your stuff! I'm still thinking about that SI plexi bezel. I'll keep it all in mind....
