Now I have discovered MAME, HyperSpin and HyperPin. Wow... some of these cabinets people are building are the tits! (excuse the expression)

I had an idea. I could use 3 small 7" LCDs in a MAME cabinet to create a digital marquee, that (probably with a lot of coding) could display a virtual marquee of the selected game. Woah.

My current dilemma is that I own/live in a 2nd story condo with no elevator. How does one lift a 450+ Lbs cabinet up a flight of stairs?

I suppose an alternative is to rent a small space somewhere. lol

No biggy. Many arcade games had mini or tabletop alternatives.. Just stick to Cabarets (mini arcade games) and tabletops. Much less mass to move up stairs. Three mini's are equivalent to two full uprights. Of course there's the trade offs... art, shape.. some company's like williams and atari provided mini arcade game art work..

Don't get me wrong.... there's definitely something special about a true, dedicated original that makes it awesome... I'm just saying... "OH LOOK! FLASHY BUTTONS!!"

They all dedicated and original. But I know exactly what you mean. "the most complete and best version of (insert game title here) you can ever experience", right. ;)

Lots of collectors here. My experience is as a total noob to this hobby.

I started a year ago with a MAME. It looks like a DK cabinet with a PC LCD. I won't say I was ripped off, I was just impatient. My kids LOVE it, me not so much anymore. I see them several times a week playing some obscure game I would never play. My main reservation, a jack of all trades is a master of none. If you want a pretty good multi experience, a multi-cade or multi-williams is a nice start. The typical multi cade is based on an upright 19" real arcade monitor and plays almost all of the games on the board with a standard 4 way stick and 2 buttons. A typical multi williams plays 8 or 10 games on a horizontal monitor in the original format with all the multiple buttons you need for Stargate etc.

I have moved on to some old school games now. A Tempest and Karate Champ with Missile Command and Lunar Lander(clouds part, heavenly organ music with Ahhhhhhhh in the background) heading my way via NAVL next week.

I am embarrassed to say my last 3 purchases have been 2 games at a time. My wife is a VERY patient woman.

Next I'm ready to learn how to work/tinker with them.
