New to The Forum

Welcome to the madness. I have nothing to add that hasn't already been covered.

You going to CAX this year? You should! ;) San Jose, CA. Start planning, it's July 17 and 18. It's where us freaks meet for a game convention...

So, all the prices I'm seeing from you guys are in what I would call the 'inexpensive' range... say from $50 for a lucky garage sale find in has-seen-better-days condition to say $500 tops for a rare, working, good condition type game.

So why, then, when I get on eBay or CL am I seeing prices in the $800-$1200 range? I mean, that's quite a discrepancy. To the point where I'd feel guilty making someone the "KLOV offer" lol

"I know you're asking $900, I'm willing to give you $300."

Not that I wouldn't do it, just, where do these people get their prices to list at $900-ish?

For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Centipede-full-...tem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27b2832336

You can be surprise what you can find for less then 50 or even free. I have ran across a few and they end up in my collection for a little while.

Easy to do:

CL Tron listed for $800. I traded some Visa Gift Cards for it. Cost to me: free. :D

In most cases ebay has informed people selling at retail prices, or extremely uninformed people that do a search on the maximum a game has ever sold for in retail. Then they just throw that price out there, thinking they'll get retail prices for their basement stuff. I usually don't even bother "educating" the seller that they won't get that price, you're just looking for an argument.

FYI, you can probably find a working Centipede for $200 to $300 if you watch and wait, or a broken one for $50 to $100.

What you're supposed to do is write them a check for double the amount and ask for half of it back in cash. Of course the check should be bogus. They're basically paying you to take their game!

But seriously, price all depends on the game itself and the condition it's in. Check out eXidy's price guide for a good idea of what you should be paying. You'll find plenty of people on craigslist with water damaged crap that want thousands for their game. Ebay prices are generally retail, but you can sometimes find decent deals. There are plenty of good deals to be had if you're patient and keep your eyes open.

And once in a while an angry wife will sell her husbands games for dirt cheap. You can get some really good rare games this way. Keep an eye out. We all have a story or two about situations like that.

At those types of prices I could probably hit that 30 mark in a year as suggested earlier, of course they will be spread out over my condo, my parents garage, my brother's basement, storage units, etc. lol

With patience, those prices are very reasonable. I haven't paid over $200 for a game in a looooong time. Well, other than pinball. They are harder to get bargains on.

Most I paid is $300. (Check my sig to see what I own.) They are all in good shape. Like I said earlier, the prices have really dropped on these machines.

There are some misinformed people trying to sell commonly seen machines on ebay for ~$1000. They will learn soon enough their pricing is unrealistic. Personally, I wouldn't even bother even making an offer on a massively overpriced machine. The person thinks their machine is solid gold and won't even entertain a reasonable offer.

welcome to the disease.....errr hobby

i started with a fishtales on may 1st!!! im currently at 13 and a juke with two pins to pick up!

we arent even to july lol

so go rent a big house or a house with a big garage, check cl 9 times per day, and determine how far your willing to travel, hope you have a truck!

goodluck

Most I have paid for a single machine was 200 for a 1 slot neogeo in a converted cab. Ever since I do not think I have paid more then 75 for any other one. I will if it is something I want though.

In that case, I'm glad I stopped by. :)
Don't let the prices these guys give you, make you think that's the most you should spend on a game. There are some games that can go easily command a $1000 asking price. If you find a game you really want and are comfortable with the price then go for it.

I can say that joining these forums and doing research is a step in the right direction. Most people tend to buy a game first and then find these forums, discovering they overpaid happens soon after. lol

Welcome to KLOV! Depending on your skills, or even just willingness to learn, you can find good deals on non-working games and fix them up. Only one of my games was fully working when I bought it. Check out the Restoration forum for inspiration - lots of great "trash into treasure" stories there.
