Hi all, I jus donated and got posting privelages! Wanted to drop a hello to everyone from a fellow enthusiast. Right now, I only have two machines, MK2 converted from a Gauntlet (I kno..it wasn't me, it was cheap and my first game, i now know better) and Xybots which I purchased broken for $40 and recently brought back to life!!

While I live in a condo and space is limited, I do have property north of me consisting of 45 arcres (house and barn with out buildings as well). The barn needs some restoration and is about 4000 sq ft! I think you can see where this is going...

I already got the green light from the misses to do as I please with the barn. So I will be eventually turning it into a massive arcade. This will obviously take years to do, but the seed has been planted, only a matter of time. I have a deep passion for these classics which I'm sure most of you can relate to.

Anyway, thought I'd fill everyone in as I'll be frequenting this place as free time allows. I'm always looking to learn new things about the hobby, and look foward to helping where I can

Nice to meet you
-Matt

Welcome bro!

Please remember these things are addictive as crack and will be multiplying like rabbits in no time. :D

Where are you located?

Welcome Matt. Our condolences on the untimely passing of all of your free money (soon to be converted to "hobby" money) ;)

Welcome to the hobby! Step back, take a deep breath, and take a photo of your house with only two games in it. This will never happen again. In a couple of months, you'll have a garage full. Boxes of parts on the floor. A dismantled monitor on the kitchen table. A stack of old television sets in the corner hoarded for the tubes. A couple of half gutted cabinets, purchased as projects, sitting along the side wall. And when you're sitting, staring at a computer screen reading fuzzy scans of 30 year old manuals trying to figure out the value of a fried resistor on a power supply board at 3AM, you can look at that picture you took, of that peaceful room with only two games in it, and something called a "sofa".

Welcome Home!

Don't punish the monitor for something the toe did!

welcome to the obsession! The more the merrier unless you want a machine I want then its WAR! J/K:)

Before you go filling 4k sqft with games I HIGHLY suggest you work
on basic infrastructure.. carpet, wiring, lighting, heat, cooling, etc.

Hell I have 375 sq ft in a basement I am trying to finish and it sucks
having 1/2 of that taken up by games. Constantly shuffling them around to
make space to do construction work.

I can only imagine what a mess I could make with 4k sq ft:)

Oh yea! That's prbly the single most reason I haven't built the collection yet, cuz I kno they will hav to be moved.

And the barn has a dirt floor right now, and very limited electrical, so a large renovation is in need. Expensive and time consuming *sigh*

Welcome aboard and remember....

It's not an obsession until:

1. All your kids toys get relegated to a small corner of the basement
2. You don't mind parking outside all winter because your garage is full of games
3. Your yard tools are rusting outside because your shed is full of games
4. You have replaced your dining table with 2 cocktail cabs
5. You have games stored at all your friends houses and are losing track of them
6. You are starting on your 2nd or 3rd storage unit
7. You own a pickup for the sole purpose of hauling games
8. You check the forums, craigslist and ebay 100x a day (maybe even an hour)
9. You dream of finding a barn of old games instead of one full of old sports cars

AND (not OR - AND!)

10. You start planning to make your bed a loft so you can get games in your bedroom.

Oh god, while I haven't acted out most of those yet, I see myself looking at a corner of the room thinking,?"yea I can fit a cabaret there"

But, in my situation, along with a lot members here I'm sure, I have a very understanding fiancé. And it's a two-way street, so I have the basement at our home, she has the rest lol. But....our property up north is fair game for anything!

Its like my neverland, without the pedophilia.

cool! xybots is an old favorite of mine, rotating sticks make it tough to play in mame. i like alot of the mid to late 80s atari classics.
