I am going to pick up a non working Whirlwind from a friend next week. From reading on here, I have seen that a new pinball is good for an older machine. Are pinballs a standard size and weight? How many do I need to get for a Whirlwind?

Thanks

Chris

Most modern pinballs take 1 1/16 balls. I would say all do but there probably is some game that doesn't.

I ordered these:

Whirlwind Takes 3 balls. But it's always nice to have a spare or two. And nothing will eat up a machine worse than cheap balls. It's worth it to get quality ones.

I always replace the balls with brand new ones with every machine I have purchased in the past. If a ball is pitted or not smooth it can cause unnecessary wear on your play field and also affect game play as well. Besides at less than $1 for a new ball it is a cheap upgrade compared to the rest of the stuff you might have to fix or replace on the machine.

Good luck with your WW and hope it is just a fuse ;)

First thing you should do, probably before you even worry about getting it working, is get some Novus 1, Novus 2, some wax (Google "best pinball wax" and make a choice [good luck!]), and clean and wax the playfield. It's pretty simple (you can even do a YouTube search for some tips!) and it's something that all owners should know how to do. Order some new pinballs and wax them up a little bit, too.

Then, the problem solving begins! Personally, I think this is the fun part.

Good luck and enjoy Whirlwind!

Thanks

Thanks for the tips. I am going to order some balls and some wax and see how it is when I pick it up next week. I am sure there will be many more posts as I stumble through trying to get it to work.
