i just bought a SF2 championship edition cabinet. i was told it doesnt work, but i want to try to fix it. i was told it does turn on, or at least power up. i plugged it in, but nothing. is there an on/off switch on arcade machines that i dont see? any suggestions on how to diagnose the problem once i turn it on?

It could be a dedicated cabinet or a conversion kit cabinet. Post pictures of the cabinet so we can advise better.

There is usually a power switch on the cabinet and safety interlock switches on the back door and sometimes on the coin door. Look for a power switch on the top of the game, and near the power cord. Some cabinets (Taito) had the power switches well hidden.

Did you open the back of the game up or the coin door before turning it on? If you did look for interlock switches against the doors. Pulling the plunger out will keep it on. Or you could just close it back up and try again.

Another thing to check would be the fuses. Follow the power cord into the cabinet and check any fuses you come across.

Also note there may be more than 1 interlock switches and all need to either be depressed or pulled out if one is not pressed in and the other one is pulled out there can be a problem.

Also check all fuses if all the switches check out.

Look at the back of the monitor tube with it all plugged in and turned on and see if your getting any power to the Monitor (there should be a small glow from the tube). If there is no glow then I would look towards the power supply and the power wiring from that.

Supply some pics and detail the things you have looked at and we can offer other places to look in the pics supplied.

thanks for the help, a lot of what you guys are saying, i frankly dont understand. i have no knowledge of electronics, i just love videogames. i did find the power switch, it was on top as someone suggested. when i turned it on, the monitor was green, but nothing else. unfortunetly, i can see that "insert coins" and other stuff like that are burned into the screen.
i dont know how to upload pictures to this forum, but i poseted them here

thanks!

To post images here, once you have them online use:

For example is you wrote this:

without the astericks you'd get:

-009.jpg

Oops... I guess geocities doesn't let you link to the photos you store there. If you uploaded them to www.photobucket.com and then linked them it would work.

Do you hear any game sounds at all when the machine is powered on? Do you have any other game boards you could test with?

mouse.txt

Edit: must be becaues of the board software. If you highlight, cut and paste that into your browser, the picture shows up. Works in YABBSE, but not here. Sorry for steering you wrong!

i hear no sounds when i turn it on. what do you mean another board? can i just buy boards for any games and plug them in there? for example, can i buy a mortal kombat board and play it in my street fighter cabinet? what do i need to search for on ebay to get this? how do i know they are compatable?
