New Splatterhouse... what did you think?

I have not beaten the game yet as I have been playing it and Fallout New Vegas.
Here are my quick observations...

I like the gore... blood on the camera, heads chopping off... it's great.
I also love how they make Rick deteriorate when his health goes down. His arm falls off, his sides are gashed open etc...
The story seems like the others so far, so I will wait to comment on that when it is over.
Game Play is good although camera angels can get frustrating at times.
I also like that they have a level that is partially like the old side scrolling Splatterhouse. It's pretty cool.
There is also quite a bit of nudity from the girl. You can pic up pieces of pictures of your girlfriend and they are nude... it's pretty sweet.
Lots of good dialogue too... the mask really has some funny comments.

What I don't like...
I don't like that they made the game out to be like a comic book. I wished it was more realistic looking.
Anyone else?

I refuse to play it. I have seen gameplay videos of it and I think it looks terrible. I can't stand the POV of the gameplay and that alone is enough to make me not buy it. The only thing that sparked my interest in it was rumors of the original Splatterhouse games being playable in it, but I have seen no proof of that as of yet.

I have owned every Splatterhouse version/port except for the rare handheld lcd. The arcade is by far the most enjoyable. The Sega Genesis versions are o.k. The TurboGrafx version is pretty close to the arcade, and the FM Towns Marty port is almost identicle. Even the Famicom (Jap. NES) is really cool. But I will never buy Splatterhouse for the 360. It probably doesn't even have the killer blue orbs (roll my eyes).

.....end of rant.

Oh man, I watched a gameplay video yesterday, and it looks terrible. Also I don't understand why they decided to include jumping puzzles in the game

Well I spent some time and beat the game last night. I felt it got better as it went along.
Its pretty fun and there will be a sequel.... like every game.
I like how you can play all of the other Splatterhouse games on it too!

Just out of curiousity, which "other Splatterhouse games" are on it? I'm assuming 2 and 3 from the Sega are there. But I'm unsure of which version they would have used for the original.

If you have time, run the original and see which color his mask is, white or purple. That will confirm or eliminate the Turbografx version, since it's version had a purple mask :( . The only other way to easily tell if it's the arcade, Fm Towns Marty or the PC Engine version is to play it to the level 4 boss, the inverted cross w/ flying heads. You can stall there only killing the heads that fly at you, not punching the cross or the heads surrounding it. It doesn't take long for a blue floating orb to appear from the right hand side of the screen if it's the arcade or Fm Towns Marty version. It won't appear at all if it's the PC Engine (or any other) version.

From http://www.1up.com/news/splatterhouse-include-original-splatterhouse-trilogy

According to the latest issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine (The Third Moon, via Kotaku), Namco-Bandai's Splatterhouse remake for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will include unlockable versions of all three original Splatterhouse games released in Arcades and on the Turbografx-16 and Sega Genesis between 1988 and 1993.

Even more exciting: The version of the original Splatterhouse that'll be included is the original "uncensored Japanese" version, not the censored Turbografx-16 version we got in the U.S. Splatterhouse 2 and 3, naturally, will be the Sega Genesis versions, considering that's the only console 2 and 3 were made for.

Nice info Mattroid. According to that, it's only the PC Engine version, and parts 2 & 3 from Sega. No arcade version :( ? That's too bad. The PC Engine version isn't really that close at all to the arcade. Sounds are different, colors different, ending isn't quite the same and NO KILLER BLUE ORB! You can tell the difference in just the regular screen between the FM Towns Marty version (closest to arcade as you can get) and the Japanese PC Engine version in my attached pics. Note my incredibly high score on the PC Engine version, which is achievable due to the lack of KILLER BLUE ORBS.

The mask in the game is WHITE.
Plus the title screen for it says INSERT COIN and 1PL.

Can you do a visual comparison to the life masks in the upper right corner of my two previous pics? The eyes on the mask of the PC Engine version are much more rounded compared to the arcade or FM Towns version.

OMG this is SERIOUS BUSINESS :D

Anything Splatterhouse is SERIOUS BUSINESS, except the actual new game, lol.

For real though, snap a pic of the in game screen for me. I'd like to know which it is for future reference. Plus I have a long distance friend on XBox Live that has been asking me about this because he wants to experience this game I hold so dearly. And I'd hate for him to buy this just to find out it's the PC Engine version.

LOL! This IS serious. Ok here is a pic for you. I have the ROM for Splatterhouse and the Turbo Graphics 16 ROM. My uneducated guess is that it is the Arcade Version.
It lists the HIGH SCORES.
The mask eyes are slanted a bit... not as rounded.

It's definitely the FIRST PICTURE.

It's definitely the FIRST PICTURE.

Well, almost. My first pic is from the Jap. FM Towns Marty system. Notice the larger area of black in the life bar and score boxes. Your screen pic of the gameplay matches the arcade version perfectly, and it has the correct high score screen. So it is deff. the arcade version in this game.

I appreciate the time you took to get me those pics!
