New SoCal Guy Here!!! - Breeder's Cup Software Updates?

Hey fellow arcade/pinball enthusiasts!!! I am somewhat fresh to this whole gameroom scene. I am up in the Lake Arrowhead area. I have built up a decent collection so far including a Gauntlet Dark Legacy, Crazy Taxi High Roller, Area 51/Max Force, Beatmania Core Remix, Galaxy II db, Jurassic Park and Street Fighter II pinballs, and my newest additions, 3 Breeders Cup arcades!

These guys are very shiny and I am interested in linking the 3 to race head to head. My problem right off the bat is that the three machines are all running different versions of the software and Ultracade is out of business now (as far as I can tell) leaving me lost for options on how to get these machines on the same page. I am hoping there is solution as these seem like they'd be a really good time and they are in PERFECT shape. I even have 100+ of the blank horse cards as well as a hundred or so horse cards started that we could play around with.

Anybody dealt with these, specifically updating and/or linking them lately?

New member introductions is probably not the best place to ask about the Breeder's Cup, so I'll check back in a bit and try that in a better category...

That said, thanks for taking me into the family! Looking forward to drawing on the knowledge of the group and sharing my experiences with y'all-

Welcome to the forum,

I am not an expert but I will give you my best guess advice..

Getting support might be hard..

I did run across this..
http://www.coinoptoday.com/newsflash/news/ultracade_2005-05-31_head.html

That seems to indicate that the system needed to be hooked to the Internet.
Playing other players across the net. Suggests that the head 2 head game hand a server that these machine hooked too..

It seem like the machines had to be registered in order to play on the breeder cups network.

I might be wrong..

On page 8 it just shows a router and Ethernet connections.

I hope this help..

Good luck and welcome to the forum..

Thanks Alpha-tron! I did a once over on the manual and the issue is that without having the same software updates installed on each machine, linking them is not an option. Ultracade has contact numbers listed for support, but they are now out of the picture.

I am curious if anybody has successfully updated these machines or found a way around the software versions to still be able to link machines? These may be destined for some kind of mame conversion, but I'd like to have them up and running for the races for a bit if possible!

I am sorry that I am not an expert on your system.
But if it is pc base. Maybe you can get away with cloning the hard drive so that the software looks all the same. It might not work due to security system or chip they prevents third party upgrades.

You might want to try buying a cd to upgrade something like this..

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Ultracade-3...289?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1c2aa0d399

If you upgrade all three machine it might work. I am not sure if the upgrade disk is just a one shot deal or you can use it on all your machines..

No need to apologize Alpha-tron! I very much appreciate the time you are taking to help me research the problem :) I think the ultracade disc in that auction is for the 80 game arcade classics platform that they used to do. The Breeders Cup stuff seems to be about nil on ebay and other sites, though an upgrade disc for BC like the arcade classics one would probably do the trick if I can find it and/or if it exists!

Maybe you can create a search in eBay and have it email you when something pops up.
I have done that in the past.
Maybe you can find an active ultracade forum or maybe a user group on yahoo that might get you better advice.

There is the vaps section here
http://www.arcade-museum.com/members/game_census.php?klov_id=10263
This list user who have ultracade machines.
Now I do not now if they are active members here but it is a starting point..

Thanks Alpha-tron! I may be doomed as Breeder's Cup doesn't even seem to appear in any lists. The VAPS page you found covers Ultracade, but that makes no mention of the BC machine and none of the owners show the BC as their machine. It is all the arcade classics. For reference, this is a listing for my type of machine currently on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Breeders-Cu...368?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a76d684d8

I even messaged that poor guy to see if he ever ran into this issue in his history of ownership. Thought maybe he has the update disk which I could buy from him. We'll see. I am grasping at straws in hoping that such a disk even exists.

Did I mention that I REALLY appreciate you coming to my aid on this? :)

I just emailed Global VR to see if they have any ability to help out. They do still offer manuals and update information on the machine. Maybe the simplest solution could be the answer. Should have gone there first! I'll let you know what they say.
