New shop update

Looking good! You get some good parts out in CA?

YUP!

Nabbed a bunch of voltage regulators, resistor packs, sockets, 8035 MPUs, 68010 CPUs, 2804 NVRAMs, and DG-201 electronic switches along with a bunch of misc stuff.

Oh, I picked up 2 interesting chip programmers PSD Pro (PSD/ZPSD) from WSI. I saw they had a stack of 8 of the programmers but they never seem to come with the programming adapters or the SIMMs needed that correspond to the adapters. I found programming adapters in another box for dirt cheap and as I dug through the programmers 2 of them had the SIMMs. :)

Now I have the following adapters
  • PLCC52 x 2
  • PQFP52 x 2
  • MQFP44
  • TQFP64
And just need to find some AC adapters to work with them. That should be easy enough.

I also picked up an odd 4 socket adapter for some oddball programmer...

But it was cheap and can be scavenged for the 4 sockets on it.

Oh, and I picked up a small quantity of 56 pin extender boards for STD Bus systems. I'm hoping I can use them to make extender cards for testing some games.

That is a lot of stuff. Did security look at you funny at the airport?

$43,000+ for 600 square feet seems pretty pricey. It's the space over engineered?

I checked the bag. :)

I picked up a folding duffle bag at Wal-Mart last year to bring parts home. It folds up very small and fits in my regular luggage. That way I can load it up and bring it home full of parts.

They had to tie in the roofs and foundation. The foundation is strong enough to park a diesel pickup on it and was designed to not move, even on our silly Texas soils.

It was also bricked and fully insulated which added a lot.

The 4 4' wing walls didn't add much price to it... but were added so I'd have plenty of space to hang parts cabinets. Also, it's fully wired and the attic is decked & has fold down stairs.

Bead board is about 1/2 done already this morning. :)

Bead board, entry door, attic door/stairs, all trim, end caps on wing walls, and entry step is done. :)

Flooring ordered!

Found it on clearance for $2.67 sq ft.

Marmoleum Click Classic Planks (300cm x 900cm / ≈12" x ≈36") in Blue

3030_blue.jpg

This is a marbled linoleum floor in a click style like Pergo. REAL linoleum, not vinyl... which is a natural, green floor, AND naturally doesn't build up static.

Are repair fees going to go up to help pay for the new shop? :-(
Since there are people with mountains of boards for you to repair is there a line forming somewhere and how do I get in line? lol

Some things will be going up a bit... by $5 here & there.

The only large increase ($10) will be Galaga boards. I'm going from $80 to $90 plus shipping since it takes sooooo much time to install all those new sockets and resistor packs.

I'm not going crazy with price increases.

The painters are here doing touch-up work... and the electricians are just about finished with the electrical work!

But... I think final inspection won't be until Monday.

I'll post pics later today.

They did more painting tonight... and DAMN you can get high in there.

All the electrical is done, just waiting on inspection Monday for the finished building. :)

Here are some pics... the camera doesn't do it justice as it's VERY VERY bright in there. There are 6 fluorescent light fixtures in a 600ish sq ft space.

In this picture you can see the outlet just to the right of the left window. That is a dedicated 220v outlet for an air conditioner/heater combo unit.

The baseboards are just barely tacked in so they can be removed for when the flooring goes in.

And in this one, if you look closely at the top left corner of the pic you can see the 110v outlet in the celing. I'll pick up one of those drop extension cords on a reel and mount it there.

Next to the window is a 20A 110v dedicated outlet. If I need to use the air compressor for some reason then it'll plug right in there. I can keep the damn thing outside the window too since it's VERY loud. :)

Everything is done in semi-gloss paint so it can be cleaned easily... and to help with lighting.

Looking good! It is odd to see a new room on KLOV that is painted white and has normal lighting. They are always dark walls and blacklights... ;)

WOOHOO!!!!

Just got the email that the flooring shipped. :)

Origin: HAZLETON, PA
Destination: HIGHLAND VILLAGE, TX
Pick Up Date: 6/24/11
Appointment:
Estimated Del. Date: 6/29/11
Status: IN TRANSIT

I was nervous since I picked the company off the web and spent $1804+change off their website look/feel and the cheap pricing for the product.

I can't wait!!!!

Today was supposed to be final inspection by the city but I don't know if they showed up or not since I was at the office all day. :( I have to call the contractor tomorrow to find out.

Final inspection is DONE!

Outside paint is DONE!

Now I just have to wait for the final clean-up, the letter of release, and the closing bill. I did jump the gun and put the AC in tonight though!

Tomorrow the flooring will be here. The trucking company called today to schedule the delivery between 12 and 5pm tomorrow.

WOOHOO!

SO close to being done!

Nice...

While you are unpacking, I can send you some boards!

I did the same in my shop. Semi White for easy cleaning if needed and to help with the lighting. I was worn out on bad lighting in the basement at the old house. It would almost blind you until you start putting stuff on the walls to break it up a bit.

Let it air out as best you can. At my place I use a room at the back of the basement as my shop so it was a bit tough. No direct ventilation. Seemed like I would go loopy every time I spent more than 5 min in there for the first 2 weeks.

...and it looks great!!! You will prob be up and running about the time I unEarth the NEO boards I need to send you. :D

IT IS DONE!!!!

The flooring arrived on the 29th. The workers installed it today and it's DAMN BEAUTIFUL!

Marmoleum Click linoleum tile in #3030 Blue. It was $2.67 a sq ft to buy and $1.50 sq ft to install.

The flooring guys arrived around 2:30pm and worked through dinner. I fired up the grill and cooked some polish sausages and dipped some asparagus and potato slices in butter and grilled them too. Those guys were working like crazy so I fed 'em too.

My son and I moved parts cabinets in tonight... Tomorrow morning we move workbenches in. After that I have to set up a bench and get some boards out the door ASAP for a couple of folks. :)

WOOHOO!

My dream shop is finally a reality.
