New shop update

It's going to be heated and airconditioned. I'm getting one of the free floor standing combo heat/AC units that duct out the window.

Right now I'm scouring CL looking for electronic workbenches but having ZERO luck. I'd like to pick up 2 more for the shop. One for JAMMA (and JAMMA adapter) work, one for the older games using the Kurz Kasch unit, and one for old computers and game consoles.

Hell, PM me sometime if you're ever over in the Lewisville area. I'm up in Highland Village.

WARNING - Portable AC's are NOT equal. Get a 2 hose model (intake and exhause) otherwise you'll be VERY sorry... one hose models are about 1/2 as efficient as an equally powered window/wall model.

2 hose was the plan from the beginning. ;)

I'm getting one that is a "heat pump" and AC.

Just got back from Mineral Wells with two of these on a friend's trailer:

They have 4 fluorescent bulbs overhead and the work surface of one was covered up by a thick layer of posterboard over kraft paper and the other by a layer of adhesive backed closed cell foam for some reason. They were military surplus from a place that did rework on F-16 components. They had some crazy stuff in that place!

There are wheels on 'em and a crank where you can lower the legs to have them on the ground... or you can lock the wheels in place and leave 'em that way. There are also sliding bars on the top front with what looks like a hanger for an air hose to power tools.

Snagged 'em off of eBay for $200 each (They wanted $295 each) on a "best offer" and am tickled! :001_sbiggrin:

Thanks to VectorJunkie for pointing 'em out to me on eBay!

Thanks! :)

I got a good surprise when I came home too... The roofing guys came out and took off all the shingles from the old garage and put the felt down on the entire roof. I thought they weren't coming since they didn't get here before I left around 1:30 for Mineral Wells.

They are supposed to shingle Monday.

RJ, Double bonus! Glad you got some benches for your shop. Are the original work surfaces below all that crap? Love that they lift onto wheels.

Talon, nice looking shop! Are you in town in Princeton? We have some acreage north of the high school. At some point we plan to build out there.

Yep, the West side of Princeton, couple miles inside the city limits. Right off Monte Carlo where they did the road upgrade.

Thought maybe you were out that way given the house and large yard. The shop looks like a nice size.

Today they installed the windows, finished the framing inside, decked the attic, cut/framed the opening for the door, and framed out for the attic stairs. Nothing going on now until Wednesday when the electricians come out and the roof gets shingled.

I'll go take a few pictures inside & out when I have a 30min break between conference calls and can snag a bit of lunch.

They really are fast. Like the Jimmy John's of remodeling... Freaky Fast!

Today, the outside has been wrapped and the windows installed

The door opening has been cut/framed and you can see where the existing wiring is going outside. It was under the area where the slab was to be poured so it had to be removed. It will be relocated to a different area in the workshop.

The framing finished... Here's the corner where the breaker box will be moved to... this corner is the one facing the camera on all the outside shots.

And here's the other side of the same wall where the 4' wing walls are. These will have parts cabinets hung all over 'em... and the 1x6 endcaps will have L hooks on them holding cap kits, Galaga renew kits, and all the other kits I sell.

The attic stairs will be hung after the drywall is done so they can be mounted flush. The decking was done this morning too. They were FAST!

Anyway... nothing else is happening until Wednesday when the electrician is supposed to do the wiring and the roofers install the shingles. Thursday is inspection day and once that is done the insulation goes in and the drywall goes up!

I already have it in my head where the whiteboards will be hanging and where the projector will hit the wall during the party.

I'll have to get pics tomorrow morning as it's almost dark now but the roof is fully shingled and the electrical rough-in is done.

:) WOOHOO!

Tomorrow we're supposed to get the inspection on the framing and electrical then they can start insulation and drywall.

We're waiting on a shipment of brick to get the outside done but they did the metal pieces hung up on the walls for it today.

Raymond, I have shop envy. Of course I'd fill it with games and other crap and then not be able to get anything done. I am so pleased they are working so quickly. Keep me in the loop for a tentative move date.

Will do!

I'm getting ANXIOUS!!!!

man very nice!! you belong on garagejournal (if you are not already)

What's garagejournal?

The inspection didn't happen yesterday... The guy from the city didn't come out since it said nobody was here and the door was unlocked. They can't enter existing buildings and the door to the shop is inside the garage.

I was home all day... sigh.

Well, they came out this morning at 9am and both electrical and framing passed inspection. WOOHOO! The insulation guys came shortly after and have just left.

Here are the pics of the roof with all new shingles on both the old side and new... and pics of inside with the insulation up.

Enjoy!

Damn they work fast. Looking great!

If I may ask (I don't think it was covered already), what is this costing you to build? If you prefere to not answer (or PM me) that is fine, and I completely understand.

I am considering a 2 car garage or something like this.

A little over 43k - it has to be bricked so that added quite a bit to the cost.

Also I wanted to use a specific electrician which added another 600 to the cost. We have a small, family owned company that has been doing our electrical work for several years now. They do excellent work and we've always been happy with them.

I appreciate the info. Good to go with people you know and trust. What square footage are you getting?

Looks great!
