New shop update

Thats very cool! Its nice to have a big dedicated area to work in. I've got one at our warehouse in Frisco and really like it. It is going to be air conditioned, right?

I didnt realize that there were so many people here in the Dallas area. I've been here for almost three years and have only made one friend! LOL! I guess I gota get out more. :)

You should go to his repair party when the shop is done. I'm sure quite a few of us will show up. :)

That slab is looking good!

It's going to be heated and airconditioned. I'm getting one of the free floor standing combo heat/AC units that duct out the window.

Right now I'm scouring CL looking for electronic workbenches but having ZERO luck. I'd like to pick up 2 more for the shop. One for JAMMA (and JAMMA adapter) work, one for the older games using the Kurz Kasch unit, and one for old computers and game consoles.

Hell, PM me sometime if you're ever over in the Lewisville area. I'm up in Highland Village.

I did the same thing for a few weeks. I finally found a good bench for practically free at the town dump's second chance store. It's basically a storefront for all of the perfectly good things people throw away.

I wouldn't buy anything there that I couldn't douse with bleach, but it was great for a bench that I can toss in the garage and beat to shit. You might see if your town has one.

I was searching for you too and you are right... There isn't jack right now! I'll keep searching to make sure we don't overlook one listed in a non-obvious wording. :)

Thanks man! I appreciate that. :)

They delivered the wood today for the framing. It was crazy seeing that guy jockey around the load with that forklift to get it all in place. He was damn good driving that thing and I didn't even have to move my truck out of the driveway.

Wow... Waste Management FINALLY delivered the dumpster... and it has more holes than a block of swiss cheese. You can see all kinds of light through it.

While they may mess around, these guys doing the shop sure don't. They started with a bare slab this morning and are already making it look like a building.

Here's as of 9:30 this morning. They started at 7:00 with the bare slab.

Pretty damn close!

The eaves are done, vents are in, walls are sheathed, roof decking is on...

The roofer was talking about coming out tomorrow to clear off the rest of the old shingles and to lay down the 30lb felt on the decking. Shingles will come Monday as will the rest of the Tyvek wrap and the inspection on the framing.

WOOHOO!

Wow, thats really coming along nicely. Is it just going to be a shop or will it double as a man cave? Not having a basement here is really bummin me the hell out. I waited 10 years to get a basement, got one, had it finished only to sell the house 1.5 years later.... Ugh...

Shop only!

Ask Raven, Komodo, or VectorJunkie about my man cave / barcade. :)

A truck pulled up tonight and dropped off the new attic stairs and 36" wide door.

:)

I thought while they are building they should install decking in the attic so I can shove extra crap up there!

You should probably ask them to wire it for some lighting too. One of my attic crawl spaces has no lights in it and it really sucks having to go up there with a flashlight.

Damn! How many guys are on that work crew? In the previous picture, I only see two. They are hauling some major ass!

I hope I'm not pissing in anyone's cheerios. Fast doesn't always mean good.

I'm dealing with a lot of crap in my less then 3 year old house right now and its all because the not so skilled labor was pushed to build the house fast so they could move onto the next one.

I'd keep a real close eye on the craftsmanship thats going on in there. Especially if your plumbing water into the building.

Small company with oversight on the guys doing the building. The slab was done VERY well and the rest of it has been nicely done too. The guy whose name is on the company came over last night to inspect the work and further clean up everything after the crew left.

They've won a bunch of awards from various city/county/state organizations and have explained everything that has been done so far and what is coming next.

I have a friend that is a metalsmith and gunsmith who built his own workshop - including doing the metalwork for the slab. He looked at it and in his typical understating way said "looks nice. They did it right." which makes me feel good about the work that's being done. :)

They had 4 guys... 2 framers and 2 roofers doing the work. They were fast and didn't mess around. :)

I probably should have had them build my house.

I've never had this many problems with a new house, this is my third one.

Hey RJ why did you post in General. Didn't want your shop post showing up next to mine in the chat about anything??? Muahahaha..

We need to work out our schedules so we don't have parties at the same time. Although, since yours is smaller it will be completed sooner.

Got the last of the roof tine up, and roll ups will be installed monday. Which is when I hope to finish up all the trim. Then the outside will be complete.
