Crazy stuff... crazy stuff...

We moved back in January... finally got all the financing done... got bids... and last Thursday we signed the contract.

Fast forward to today.

Permit is IN. Builder on-site inspection and overview is done. They have the key to the garage and will start the demo work next week.

One wall of brick is being taken down, a dog run and 3 red tips are being removed and the ground recontoured. After that comes the slab pour then it'll start to look like a shop.

I'll post pics as the building gets underway. When it is finished and I get everything moved in there WILL be a repair party and all the locals are invited. More details on that to come later...

Finally. I get a new shop. Whew!

Thanks!

I'm up here in Missouri waiting in the hospital while dad undergoes his triple bypass... Called home last night and they stripped the brick off the wall of the garage and tore down the dog kennel... now they need to remove the concrete slab for the kennel and prep the ground for pouring the slab for the workshop.

When I get home I will!

Right now I'm many miles from home. :)

OK!

They started while i was gone... they disassembled the dog run and took off the brick from the side of the garage.

After I got home they took out the slab for the dog run, cut down the bushes, dug 'em out with the bobcat, and started on the metal work for the slab.

Saturday we had a party for friends and family starting at 12pm and they finished up all the prep work for pouring the slab about 10:30am. They wanted it finished to get the city inspection done early this coming Tuesday so they can get the concrete pumper in to pour the slab. It's costing several hundred more to get the pumper in here but I don't have to worry about taking out a large section of fence and having my concrete driveway cracked to pieces by a heavy cement truck.

Here's a pic of the finished metal work for the slab as it sits today... They dug a 2+' deep set of trenches and put a bunch of metal work down in them for footers. It's slick. :)

After the concrete hardens they will start the framing. The existing roof of the garage will be stripped/cut and tied into the new section.

The shop's attic will be decked with plywood and fold-down attic stairs placed on the garage side.

The whole thing will be re-shingled since the existing garage shingles are in poor shape - which we knew from the inspection report when we bought the house back in January.

One surprise - the conduit carrying the electrical was buried in the ground in the wrong place... and too shallow so the breaker box will go in the corner closest to the camera in that picture. It'll be a couple hundred more but it's only money, right?

Oh, and one thing I forgot to mention, they drilled a bunch of holes and have the rebar for the foundation tied into the existing one.

Great news all around
Our community needs you back uo nand running

I have Neo Geo boards that need help saving!

Thanks guys!

I'll be going to Silicon Valley in a couple of weeks and stocking up on the remaining parts for the kits. I'll be building a BUNCH of them.

Agree it is great news about your dad. Also, thanks for hosting the party on Saturday. Now I need to get off my ass and get my jukebox going after seeing yours. :)

Good luck getting the Dr. pepper machine working too. I'm sure you will have that figured out soon.

Good news about your Dad. Enjoy him while you can.

And congrats on whatever else this thread was about...;)

+100! In January Dad was making good progress, on March 7th I was optimistic, on March 9th he was gone. Take advantage of every minute like it was the last week you will ever see them.

Thanks everyone,

VJ was referring to the jukebox I built from a Merit Megatouch upright cabinet. We had a party here in the new house and I was scrambling getting everything ready. Add in a 4 day trip to Missouri at the last minute and I barely had everything done in time.

The marquee arrived Saturday as guests were arriving. :)

Here are pics of the finished unit, the music selection screen (touchscreen!), and the built-in screen saver. It's DWJukebox which is freeware.

The Dr Pepper machine is working but not vending. Drinks get cold but it's not kicking the solenoid to allow you to get a drink. I have another thread open on that elsewhere on the forum.

Funny thing... we had a lot of kids here and grownups that love to play games... and not one person turned on the big screen TV to play any XBox 360, PS3, or Wii games! Everyone played the old school games: Puck bowler, Foxy Lady cocktail pinball, Multi-Williams (JROK!), Derby Boy pachislo, Merit Megatouch Platinum, the crane (full of plushies), and the jukebox.

Thats very cool! Its nice to have a big dedicated area to work in. I've got one at our warehouse in Frisco and really like it. It is going to be air conditioned, right?

I didnt realize that there were so many people here in the Dallas area. I've been here for almost three years and have only made one friend! LOL! I guess I gota get out more. :)
