Donkey Kong Playtimes

I remember when Dragon's Lair was new and the monitors were on the top of the machine so you could see what was going on. Since Donkey Kong has a flat top you could put a monitor on the top of one of them so other people could watch and learn techniques since it is hard to watch a donkey kong played by someone else.

Great Idea. Wonder if anyone has a Sanyo in a box?

Nice! Excited to have Congo over at my Cousins, you and him claim it;s a great game. I have only played it a few times and didn't care for it but I must be missing something right :)

It is great game. Like most things, there is a learning curve and once you get past it, it is a lot of fun.

gggrrrrrhhhhhh... my distributor sold Mario Bros. Going to get Street Fighter II Turbo to replace it. Hoping to find a $400-$500 Mario Bros. on Criagslist MN.

My pizzeria owner would let his Mario Bros go for $400, I'm almost sure of it.

You want me to call him?

Yes, but not yet.

We're getting most of our games for a arcade restoration space in SC at a huge discount. 11 total but I'm still working out price and will have lay down a 50% deposit to hold the games... which will wipe me out of $$$$. We will want it definitely before opening but need to come up with the $$$ for it first.

Cool beans. Don't worry, the machine's not going anywhere:

Another idea would be to let people sell there games at your location. There is a local pinball guy that does that. He keeps all the coinage in exchange for the seller getting great exposure and a safe place to have people come check it out. I know I personally have had a few people over from craigslist in my house that I felt a little uneasy about...

Once you disappoint a regular customer with disappearing games, they might not come back. Remember that the appeal of a place like this is based mostly on nostalgia. Arcade games are show business.

I do remember back in the glory days that the local arcade sold off machines when interest cooled in them. I could never afford them though.

I think it is more the idea of variety. I know for me, even the best games get stale and I like a change of pace. Take SS Billiards for instance. He has Medieval Madness, Attack From Mars, Big Bang Bar and Twilight Zone...but I have played them all a million times. He gets a "new" game in like an older title like Police Force and it gets played a ton because people like variety and to see something new.

My restoration rep emailed me back

"...Galaga has a "Gallag" board in it, that's had the roms updated to play just like Galaga, but the issue is you can't put a 'rapid fire' chip in it like a regular Galaga board, and you can't change the number of ships, so it's stuck on 4 ships. (It plays the same, you just have to press the fire button each time you shoot, like the original Galaga board). So I thought I'd mention that up front. "

is this a problem?

I like as close to original as possible personally.

I don't think that will be a problem for you, since you want the games to be as close to original as possible. Rapid fire for Galaga was a hack and is not an original option. So the board will play closer to an original Galaga board as is, and should be fine for your needs. Besides, a new Galaga board can be had for under $75 anyway.

I myself, am so excited to have zookeeper at Rusty Quarters. I used to go to disneyland alot when I was a kid and my NO.1 game to play at the arcade was zookeeper. Also very excited about Sinistar. I only saw it on Starcade (80's video gameshow) growing up and it looked like fun... can't wait to play it!

I heard that there's a gamer out there thats traveling around the country to get the top score on every Joust game in America... I might look into sending him an email in a couple of months... I wonder if I could ask Roy "Mr. Awesome" Shildt to come up to MN to visit...

Would gamers be interested in seeing record holders play their favorite games?
