new Robotron personal best!

you know to grab Mikey last on the first brain wave right?

It's all up hill from here. :D

I've heard abt that but haven't gotten to do it yet

before the first brain wave leave no family members un collected/alive before finishing the level. then when the next level starts "first brain wave" quickly look for mikey out of all the mommy's and protect him/keep him from being killed/collected from the brains and feel free to collect all the mommies you want without worry of them being turned. (don't die tho or the brains will go back to normal and turn any mommies as well as mikey on your next guy).

i see your score doubling in no time with this :D

My best is 167k, made it as far as wave 12.

If i ever get decent grommets, i could seriously improve it.

I been playing tonight. I run 3 men, difficulty 5, and man it's kicking my butt! I would swear on a stack of bibles that IF I die on a grunt wave, they all move 2x as fast as soon as I respawn. It's like double jeopardy: Oh you died? Haha! DIE MORE NOW! Lovehate.

Nah, it ain't the grommets. It just takes practice. I did 2 mil with a broken left joystick once. Two of the leaf switches wore out and broke right after I started my game; could move down and left only intermittently. When I went to repair it later I discovered that each leaf switch had a leaf that had fatigued, broken through, fell, and was hanging by a thread, causing the very intermittent connections.

Just keep playing. :)

Oh i still play it, but my right joystick grommet is ripped all around the base, so it doesnt fire i the direction you want all the time. Cost me more than my fair share of deaths

Mine's definitely getting tired. One of these days I'd like to freshen her up. Robotron Massengill if you will. ;)

nice work. you are just about over the first hurdle to becoming a good robotron player....once you get through wave 7 a handful of times, you'll catch your second wind!

I just hit my personal best of 570k. I'm trying to break 700k to win a bet :)

Excellent! Love to hear your progress.

I'll throw out this brain strategy tip that may help push you a bit further.

--When the brain lightning bolts start to swarm you. pick a line and fire straight in one direction. If you keep that line level, their shots have to cross your firing range.
----most people will fire frantically in multiple directions which will give the advantage to the lightning bolts (unless you are a very fast and controlled at flutter firing, which is a master level skill)

--It is also a useful tip in the early part of a brain wave when the screen is still busy and you've been pushed to an edge... go to a side and drive straight along the edge while firing ahead. You'll be surprised at how you survive something that looks unsurvivable and it'll give you a bit of breathing room.

Then when you are out of the intensity, doing big arcs while cutting diagonals instead of going into the corner, will get you through to the end.

robotron

i was always a 2 million tops player and then i got me a robotron for my arcade. after playing for a month i was able to get to 10 million no problem, just magical when you can get in that zone. i have not really played in a year until a friend came over and i was only able to get a million. this is definitely one of those games you can master with alot of practise but can go back to sucking if you stop playing it, unlike a game like asteroids that once you play it well you can turn it over almost anytime.

The last time I worked on my Robotron I rebuilt the power supply and replaced all the connectors with a Bob Roberts kit. I also put in new grommets. Its amazing how solid they feel. I'd forgotten how responsive they are when they are new. My machine may look like a 30 year old machine, but it plays like a new one. :)

BTW it still has its original power supply, board set, monitor, and RAM.
