Once I'm done with Millipede, it's on to this beauty!

Anyone looking for High Impact Football stuff? :p

That conversion is well done.
HIF is a fun party game, I'd be tempted
to keep it as is, with maybe some new
sticks and buttons. Gauntlet probably
won't see as much play. Worth noting.

That sure is a nicely done conversion.

Gauntlet is just one of those great games that doesn't do very well in a home arcade, because it's just too easy with unlimited continues.

Looks like a good solid cab to start with.

That may be true in some cases, but I would disagree as a generalization. I also think it depends on the gamer. Personally I don't care much for sports games. We have Gauntlet II at home and my 5 and 7 year old play that more than anything in the house. I think its a great game and it gets the kids to interact with each other and play as a team in a fun way. Not to mention brings me back to my childhood.

It really is a fun game!

The control panel and marquee were completely unmolested for the conversion. No extra holes or damage, completely done without modification. I'll post pics in a little bit.

gauntlet only works if you have a sizeable collection and/or throw parties. Then it would be a hit. Its the one game I have sold to two different people that later called me to take it back in trade for anything else.

It will not be cost effective to restore it. To get it to 100% gauntlet from there, your looking at $500+ in parts(assuming your going logo sticks). Now if you wanted to go with the gauntlet look and run a multigame or a mame box in it, then you might have something.

your gauntlet marquee is not unmolested. It has at least 7 screw holes in it that should not be there and it looks like the marquee overlay is peeled off. The screw holes are minor, and hidden by the overlay, but the overlay is gone.

also, I think high impact is a better game.

That looks really well done, I vote for keeping it as is. No shame in conversions. One day everybody is going to have these original games and all the conversions are going to be gone, I take pride in keeping my well-done conversions as is.

I am not real hot on either game but I do like High Impact and it is well converted enough to look like a dedicated game. I don't know if there was a kit for that specific cabinet but I have seen it converted that way before and it looked just as good as this one.

Have you read the hint and tricks on how to play gauntlet? It a very interesting read. I have several gauntlet machines and if I find another one at a good price. I would still buy..

I never thought I'd see the day that KLOV people would be in favor of High Impact Football over Gauntlet.

I think the button arrangements are a little weird, but whatever. I'm personally a huge fan of HI and SHI alike (more-so SHI).

I have no desire to pursue Gauntlet anything for our arcade, if you wanted my stance on it. the only way you're making this Gauntlet again is if another cab gets offered up as a sacrifice.

I think if he wants to convert it back to Gauntlet he should and thats commendable. I personally think its a great game. Frankly, I never realized how many people don't care for Gauntlet and have a hard time seeing where that comes from, but whatever. I remember when this game first came out. The bowling alley where my parent bowled in league had it when it first hit arcades. Back then you had to wait in line to play it. Maybe its an age thing (not sure).
In my book, this is a great game.......

I am sure if you grew upon it and it made a lasting impression, then it will have more meaning. I like a little older games. gauntlet came out when I was in college, so I did not have too much free time to play games.

With gauntlet, I see a game that never ends. A game you can play forever with adding coins. A game that repeats itself after what, 18 levels? Its still a good fun group game. gauntlet is not the only one that is better in groups. Games like eliminator, warlords, track n field, sports games, and even driving games are better playing against friends. I would think fighting games too, but I am so horrible at them, I find the computer challenging.

I will add that high impact is just ok compared to other football games. SHI, cyberball, and blitz are better. I like gridiron fight and 4 player Atari football over it too. High impact is also a game better in group play, but I would have more fun playing against the computer than I would playing gauntlet. Just my thoughts.

Like I said, I would look at it as a good multigame cab. play gauntlet and a whole lot more. I think the only 4 player solution is with mame. I don't mess with lots of multi boards, but I think any support 4 player.

Gauntlet for sure. Way too many were converted/sacrificed.

I had both Gauntlet for many years and it got a lot of play at parties. Later I changed the board out to Gauntlet II and got more years of fun from it.

I've never liked sports games so this would be an easy choice for me to convert back.

Thank you all for your opinions! I'm still on the fence about it. Does anyone have an idea as to how I can safely test to see if the artwork for Gauntlet is underneath? Without destroying anything. That may help me decide.
