The first batch of CoinUps are ready.

For those who haven't been following the development of this product, the CoinUp device gives you freeplay for any game.

The final version is self powered (kudos to mspaeth) so all you need are 3 wires: coin switch, button, and ground.

Stick it right by the control panel and coin door and you're all set to go.
Takes about 5 min to install.

Sold a few today already but have 7 or so left. Just placed an order of components today and will have a ton more ready real soon.
Price is $20 and that includes shipping.

Bear with me as I work the kinks out of the new store.

Thanks again!
Let me know if you have any questions...

This is a significant leap forward for not having to sacrifice the attract screen to get free play. You deserve a medal for this...and cheap to boot. You DA MAN!

Of course you show me this AFTER I just installed a freeplay button on my vs.cab. Wasn't sure why anyone would want this until the final 10 seconds of your video. Very cool .Props to you.

Very nice! I had drawn up a small circuit using a PIC for this same purpose. The user interaction was slightly different. Seeing the end of the video was the motivation I needed to get mine done. I hate having the Space Duel on free play and loosing the attract.

Spend the $20 and buy one from me. Think of all the time you would save that you could spend playing your games. :D

what are the dip switches for?

They allow you to adjust the pulse with of the coin signal being sent to the pcb.
I haven't found a game yet that requires you to play with the pulsewidth, but some people were asking for the feature and it was cheap enough for me to toss it on there.

Just a hunch..... But I think you are missing his angle. Competition for your invention.

This is a round about way of saying he had the idea too just so when the competing product shows up, you won't think he copied you.

Or maybe I'm just a cynic.

Gadget looks great. Really simple, but great. One of those 'Why didn't I think of that' things...

How easy would it be to lengthen (double or triple) the time one would have to hold down the button if I wanted to lessen the possibility of people figuring out the trick accidentally?

Easy. If you want I can program it so that the DIP chooses how many seconds you need to hold the button down, instead of how long the pulse is.

Yeah... so am I.
Hope that's not the case. Guy comes up with a cool idea only to have someone copy and undercut him.

That would make it more appealing to me.

How fast does the 'coin inserted' pulse occur? If I held it down long enough to activate it when will I start getting multiple 'hits' or will it not do that?

I'd actually prefer that it it not repeat.

You won't get multiple hits in a single pulse. But the pulses are spaced 1/2 sec apart so it's pretty easy to press it long enough for a single coinup. If you keep it pressed you will get one credit every 1/2 sec.

Imagine you're having a party and you want to coin up the game for guests. Hold the button down and in 20 sec you have 40 credits. Better than having to hold it down for a second for a single credit and then repeat 40 times. ;)
