Don't know if this has been reported yet. found these on the usps site when I was looking for some other mailers. Needless to say, I ordered a bunch as I hate doubling up boxes to ship boards.

You can thank me by sending donations to my paypal address.

I had a Centipede sent to me in one of these... I looked for a double box... but it wasn't. They're a perfect size.

I thought I posted something about it a month or so ago when they first came out.. They are great for mailing atari boards, but its probably cheaper to mail them through fedex..

usps also has padded envelopes and legal size priority mail envelopes.

FWIW... the guy who sent me the Centipede board used that box... marked off "FLAT RATE" ... and still shipped Priority (but cheaper than flat rate).

Now that's interesting. I never thought of doing that. Especially for a board (which is very light for the weight), you'd probably do much better than way. Thanks for the tip!

post office usually does not let that fly. I would think if you printed a label and did not present it to the clerk, you could get away with it, but flat rate boxes are supposed to be be for flat rate mail..

Yeah, but who's to say that box wasn't used once then re-used?

:)

...and since I print my own postage...

:D

I didn't think to give the heads up on these. I saw them awhile back and even have a couple of cases of them in my storage room. I got them specifically for Atari boards. :D

If I don't want to ship something flat rate but still use the box I pull it apart at the seam and fold it inside out. Then you just tape it up and your good to go. I find a lot of times its cheaper just to go regular priority than flat rate. Its nice to have another box size to choose from.

Can't do that anymore. The new boxes have Flat Rate Priority printed all over the inside of the box. Too many people turning Priority boxes inside out to ship normal.

I have a good friend who works for the PO as assistant postmaster. She told me that they have little tags inserted in the boxes now. When you use them, they tags are picked up by a scanner and you'll get charged the flat-rate prices even if you turn a flat-rate box inside out.

Now, that might just be for new boxes. I don't know. Since I ship almost everything Priority, and almost always use flat-rate boxes, I don't care. Most of the stuff weighs enough that I wouldn't save much - if at all - and the buyer pays the shipping. I figure it into the price that they agree to...

Thanks for the heads up on these tags. Might be fun to track them down and see what they look like. I bet it's some sort Of RFID chip.

So let me get this straight in order to get a free box. You have to microwave the box to blow up the RFID chip and use cardboard spray paint to paint the postal box.

Hard way to get a box. Laughs.

i just had 80lbs of boxes dropped off. those game board boxes are LONG! Monopoly had an extra 8" or so of space to move around ( ;-) )

I shipped a Centipede PCB in one of these the other day and it fit perfectly with just enough room to add padding all around.

I was mailing something a few weeks back and just happened to ask if they had the new long boxes in stock and the clerk said that they had gotten a few in for the employees to get familiar with them but that they would not be stocking them. You would need to order them from USPS.com and have them delivered to your door.
