New Pittsburgh Arcade in an Old Church

I'd be curious to experience that space. It looks cool, but the volume of space (factoring height) per machine is off the charts - almost like being outside.

I find even my current basement ceiling height to be a bit too tall - less intimate than the low ceilings and of strip mall arcades of my youth.

Also not sure how I feel about playing games in a place that's designed to be solemn and quiet! I'd have to moderate my language...

Nah, I love it.

It's creative, and they're clearly not done. Lots more to do and decorate and put more games in it seems like. I think the vibe has incredible potential.

I've actually looked into trying to rent an old church before to do something almost exactly like this. It's so cool to see that idea progress on someone else's dime lol.

Anyway if I'm ever in Pittsburgh I'm 100% visiting when it opens.

Waitasec, that photo is prolly taken from a choir loft, huh? Wonder what games would be placed up there. 🤔 It'd be really nice to sit at a cocktail and look out over the room like that!

That church is designed to reflect sounds down and out from the days where the priest talked with his back turned to the parish before speakers and sound systems.

I'd like to hear it with the games on.

I'm with the people who thinks this will be excellent! We have a lot of churches which are not in use in the area, and I think this is an excellent repurposing.

The church is de-sanctified before it is put on the market by the way. So people don't need to worry about being sanctimonious.

Add in some black light bulbs and black light carpet - ooooooooo man, this will be sweet!

With a nice, cold cocktail or beer as well?

I'm not crazy about the space, it's interesting, but I'd prefer something like a brewery with a great well maintained gameroom. But this place is run by the Pitt Arcade Collective or something like that, so it may be more about cheap space to store collections than about being an awesome gameroom that makes money. I've seen some strange things in low rent or even completely abandoned churches before, like a skatepark.

I'm a normal person too, not just a game nut, so I actually get more excited about places like Pins Mechanical that has a great and well maintained gameroom selection, vs a place with 1000 classic games or a game museum.
