If you visit RGP or listen to the Spooky Pinball Podcast, then you may already know the news, but apparently there is going to be a new pinball machine produced in the near future. Pinball Sales (ie "Captain Jack" aka "Jersey Jack"), one of the largest distributors of Stern pinball machines will now attempt to make their own pinball. The first title on the horizon is Wizard of Oz.

I'm not crazy about the theme, but I am VERY excited that there may be another pinball manufacturer to provide some competition and variety. Here's hoping the quality is up there.

I wonder if it can be synced up to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" while you play it.

What, was the My Little Pony license was already taken?

Way to screw yourself right out of the gate.

Licenses cost money. That game would have to get a license ($$$) to manufacture it. A startup company should create something original and not rely on licensing stuff.

I think the theme is fine.. It all depends on what angle they take on it. Wizard of Oz can be dark and twisted and work just fine. Lots of things can be done with it. Color scheme has lots of wiggle room as well. I don't know if anyone here has ever seen the Broadway Show Wicked or not, but man that was an awesome take on Wizard of Oz.. Very cool.. I'm going to try and keep an open mind on this one.

Anyways, I wish them all the luck! I hope they get the audiance they need to keep building more.

Yeah. I don't get the choice. If they're trying to cater to families, why not go generic? License costs are high (I imagine), and honestly, Wizard of Oz seems waaay too girly for me. I know to each their own, but when the pinball market is primarily male, it doesn't seem that now is a good time in the market to test a hunch.

I'm sure even RGP members would know to post in the correct forum

at first i thought not my 1st choice for a theme, after hearing the podcast it just makes sense. think about the theme itself.the possibilities.a house that falls on the wicked witch?
yellow brick road ramp.tornado spinning disk, i will wait to see the finished product and play it before i pass judgement.

Thought more would be interested than just those that view the pinball forum. I humbly apologize for this most lofty message board sin. :)

I'm hoping this opens the floodgates of creative competition. stern has had a monopoly for 10+years.no competition=a complacent attitude. I'm excited to see what jersey jack comes up with. if this works we might see some new original titles coming out. or we might see the coveted tron title so many have been begging for.

Just listened to the pod cast and what Jack describes is exactly what the gaming industry, not just pinball needs. I look forward to this and hope it's a huge success.

Can someone post a link to the podcast? Anytime i go to spookypinball.com it locks up my browser.

try this

Thanks to the OP. This is great news for all pinball enthusiasts. Maybe we can actually look forward to new games coming out now. The interview has some cool details within. Jersey Jack Pinball will be the name of the company.

For one, the code will be open source and customers will be able to write their own software and rules for the games. Possibility's are limitless here.

As far as Wizard of Oz, he already was buying the licence for a redemption game he made, he licensed it for a pin as well. The same guy who did TSPP will be the main designer for this game.

I'm hopeful for sure, but man. I dunno. I really don't see pinball being a medium that will survive the next decade (if you can consider it "alive" now), let alone two people trying to prop the corpse up. There is a lot of bad shit stacked against a brand new table now days that has nothing to do with the quality of the game itself. Route ops and the general decline of society giving a shit specifically.

Those who dare win...however...so...here's hoping they pull it off.

Theme wise, Wizard of Oz could be a really fun theme to design and work with if they use their creative muscles and utilize the original Frank Baum childrens book as a starting point and not so much the MGM license that everyone is familiar with...create their own pinball interpretation of the tale.

Listening to the podcast now, this guy seems very down to earth about everything. I like how he has decided game #2 is going to be unlicensed. I'm hoping that the fact his is a distributor doesn't block him from selling his game through other distributors. I never knew Gary Stern said the internet wouldn't last xD. How many times can you be wrong before you hate yourself.
