I just sent the payment over for a Dragon's Lair II machine in good condition that I found. I am definitely excited for it to arrive as this has been one I have been chasing and my first laserdisc game in the collection. I was also wondering, what is required to make this machine able to play Dragon's Lair and Space ace? Is there a kit for it, and if so how much is it and what is required to install? Any help or feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks ;)

no idea how to hook any of the others at the same time (given that they're laser disc games). Just wanted to chime in and say congrats on your purchase. I'm jealous. IMO this is the better of the two games and brings back strong memories of the old arcade days.

Ok, well thanks for your input! I am quite excited about this purchase and think I snagged a pretty good deal on it as well. This was one of the games that I remember and has some great nostalgic value for me. Looking forward to its arrival, also picked up another DL2 disc on Ebay, just in case . . .

Out of luck

Jordan,

The only way you can play all three on that machine is if you turned it into a DAPHNE machine run off a computer system..

Dragons Lair, Space Ace, and DL II are VERY different in how they operate. The DL 2 main board can't be used to add DL 1 or SA eeproms.

You can buy a Dragons Lair machine and load the swappable eeproms on to the board. That way you just throw in the Space Ace disk to play it on a DL machine.

You can try to find the rare Space Ace '91 kit and swap that into your DL II machine. I haven't seen one of those kits for sale in a long while though...

Congrads on the DL2!! I just re-added a DL2 to my collection!! Sold my original one in 2006 and regretted it ever since. Just picked one up and am very happy with it!!

Take it easy

Thanks for your reply and feedback for my question. I have been asking this question around and someone at another forum mentioned
You can play Space Ace on it, but not Dragon's Lair. DL was not released for the DL2 hardware. SA can be played with a ROM swap on the board, as well as changing the disc. The disc must say "Space Ace '91" on it. The original discs say "Space Ace 1983", and will not work with the ROM for the DL2 board. The ROM can be obtained here by asking someone with a burner nicely to burn one for you.
Is that what you are referring to? I am new to the laserdisc and arcade games in general, so I am really not for sure what that all means lol. I have recently started this collection and played them a lot growing up, but have no idea as to the inner workings and hope to learn more about working on them and fixing them up. I was really just curious if this was possible and if there was an easy way to get it done. I thought it would be neat to be able to play all 3, but is not crucial by any means. I have read a little about the DAPHNE, but will have to learn more about that option as well. Thanks again for your feedback and I look forward to learning a lot more around here . . . ;)

Yea..

Jordan,

Yea..that is the same thing I was talking about. Basically, Dragon's Lair 2 had a Space Ace '91 kit issued with it. You could swap the parts inside and change the marquee and control panel and play Space Ace '91 on it. That version of SA allowed for some extra content to be played and a few other things.

My Dragons Lair machine has the swappable roms in it. So, I can play DL/SA on that one machine. Its nice to have that option if you are limited on space and don't want separate DL and SA cabinets.

It is a great source for reading about the different laser games and reading up on tech stuff..

There are a few of us "laser heads" here on the forums too...so feel free to ask a question or PM me if you need some help. I will always try to help if I can or point you in the right direction if I can't..

A lot of people don't care for the laser games because of the repetition and such, which I respect, but I always have liked them. Wish I could afford a few more or had the room even...LOL...I also like other non-laser games and have a few of those in my collection..

Congratulations dude! DL2 was (I think) my 4th machine. Never saw it back in the day but I love DL so much I had to have it. I like the first one better for several reasons but DL2 doesn't NOT get the love. Still haven't beat it. It's a hard one. You're going to get alot of enjoyment out of it.
